@autismsupsoc “Do you want the ‘masked’ answer, or the ‘oversharing’ one?”

@autismsupsoc

——————————— Not too bad, how about you?

@RowenaMcKenna @autismsupsoc I saw my specialist yesterday, and at work this morning I cleared out 3 crates, and I had rehearsal yesterday, where my part went quite well, but I said that someone's part didn't go well, but that that wasn't a judgement, but a facial observation, so... quite alright, hoe about you?
@autismsupsoc
That question is a pet peeve of mine when dealing with NTs. FFS, don't ask questions you don't want answers to! *explodes*
@autismsupsoc non verbal autistic communication, because non verbal allistic communication is hell

@autismsupsoc learning bits of ASL - baby sign language books, actually, have been wonderful.

Just the other day I was able to sign "tired" to my partner instead of having to verbalize, "I'm tired"

@autismsupsoc
But can have problems with facial expressions and body language.
@autismsupsoc Yep, been experiencing this one A LOT recently 😶
@autismsupsoc I have so many that I like. But an all time fave is Mareep
@autismsupsoc Cottonee! Klawf! Glimmora! Drifblim!
@autismsupsoc skitty. skitty skitty skitty
@autismsupsoc dragon type is my fave type, buuut design-wise... there are so many, i love mega charizard X, kricketune, ditto (very gender), mawile, girafarig and ho-oh

@autismsupsoc Lugia, Latios, Lucario, Reshiram, Lunala.

And these are just my top favourites.

@autismsupsoc do you know what the source art is for this one?
@loops I just googled Pokémon and paged through the options. I used photoshop to auto-content the top to create space do the words.
@autismsupsoc fair enough, I just quite liked it and glued to find it. Maybe reverse image search will help me 😆
@autismsupsoc
I particularly like a lot of dark and ghost type pokemon, especially Gengar,
Yveltal, Giratina and Sableye, but also really like Salamance.
@autismsupsoc I wonder how that compares to the general population. I’ve been gatekept by plenty of NT people.
@Elizabeth3 @autismsupsoc Interesting question - I tend to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and then waste a lot of energy extricating myself from stressful situations. I don't think autistic people judge and rank others instantly by clothing, job status etc. But I do sometimes get intimidated on twitter by other autistic people who berate or block anyone before they've finished their sentence. But usually I think we're less hung up on signifiers of identity and social hierarchy. I definitely don't encounter the toxic ageism I often expertience from NTs. It'd be funny if everyone yells at me now though 🤣

@autismsupsoc
The highest statement of endearment I can give a friend, and the list who get this is extremely tiny, is "You don't cost me any spoons". Those on that short list get permission to contact me even when I've gone for alone time. These same friends get the benefit I will, wothout hesitation, burn spoons I cant afford or dont even have if they need me in crisis. They are priceless friends.

Currently, this list consists of 1 human, and 1 cat.

@autismsupsoc Thinking about it, that makes sense: it's the "pairing that looks deeply unlikely at first but then makes total sense as the relationship develops" – lots of dramatic and comedic potential (the Wednesday and Enid example is an especially good one – I thought the whole point was going to be them being antagonistic to one another, until I started watching the show)

@autismsupsoc

So we are diagnosing fictional characters, most of them probably written by non autistic people, based on clichés, now?

That's beyond dumb, it's harmful.

And it's not even taking into account that it's an incredible stretch to call any of these characters, except for one, "overtly" autistic.

@autismsupsoc My son (is #autistic | has #autism) to such a degree that he can only communicate with a small set of Makaton signs. So this distinction means nothing to him and he cannot participate in forums like this. He loves walking, sensory play, music, baking, tidying, etc.. His mother and I describe him as having autism because we feel that to reduce his identity to just autism is too restrictive.
@autismsupsoc I agree. Autism is not something I can pick up and put down.
