@autismsupsoc Why's this behind t.co? Are you using M-T C? If so, be aware that the main instance of M-T C is going down due to administrative difficulties.
@autismsupsoc My favorite part of this is when the black kid is suddenly surrounded by a white family. I'm like... They couldn't find any extras for this that were black? Wow.
@autismsupsoc
Fucking shit! God, I keep forgetting just HOW horrible that video is
@autismsupsoc I heard they were a hate group but I thought that might have been an exaggeration but NOPE definitely a hate group.
@autismsupsoc yes... But still we get a lot of ?? From other ND folks... But yes the overlap is huge

@worldofcharlie

By ?? I assume you mean stuff like "What do you mean plural?"

@autismsupsoc is this about DID?
@Kubilus @autismsupsoc Kinda. DID is one form of plurality. There are others.

@Kubilus sorry we have not been following you, we should have been doing that for a while now.

DID is a subset of Plurality:

Like how Lesbian is a subset of LGBTQ+.

Plural Is every form of being more than one sharing a body (even when it is less then two … such as a Median).

It includes both neurological and metaphysical as well.

@Kubilus @autismsupsoc Plural is a blanket (and demedicalized) term for most forms of DID/OSDD (as far as I know)

@autismsupsoc I’d never heard this term before, and it turns out it means “my entire life from aged ~14 to aged 21, when, mercifully for all involved, I met my wife”. It occurred to me the other day that my youthful experience of intense, prolonged infatuations was like turning my crushes into special interests. (And a lot of that energy got rechannelled into religion from 21 onwards, until the wheels fell off that particular vehicle in the past couple of years)
@autismsupsoc I lol'd, although it's a bit weird to see #ADHD described as "kinetic", since most often all the thoughts buzzing around in my head make me go non-verbal and I just sit there like a zombie unable to react. I mean, I guess the kinetic stuff is still there, but you would never know it from the outside.
@holly @autismsupsoc I do think there's a danger with using #kinetic and #ADHD interchangeably. People with primarily inattentive/'dreamy' forms of ADD are already too often overlooked and left undiagnosed/untreated; if we change the name to further emphasize the physical motion aspect, are we making it even more difficult for those people to get the help they need?
@lmgenealogy @autismsupsoc Yes! I was exactly that dreamy, quiet, staring out the window kid. And yep, not diagnosed until I was in my 40's. (And then they did a QB test and I was off the charts on both inattentiveness and hyperactivity, lol.) But yeah, the most you'll notice of my hyperactivity is my leg shaking if I happen to bump the table.
@holly @autismsupsoc I suspect that most of us non-kinetic types are still moving all the time, it's just that we're fidgeting rather than jumping off of furniture and swinging from chandaliers.

@lmgenealogy @holly

Please come up with a better term if you don’t like other people choosing to identity as Kinetic.

We don’t approve of “Deficient” and “Disorder”

We are glad that our choice to embrace Kinetic is inspiring you to take action!

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Btw. Our use of the work Kinetic applies to motion of thought. We are sorry you can’t embrace that but we accept it.

Please be well!

@autismsupsoc @lmgenealogy I'm fine with #ADHD I'm fine with Executive Function Disorder. I do have a disorder, I don't feel shame about it because it's not my fault, and I have a right to treatment and accomodation.
@holly That's one difference btw. ADHD people & the autistic community - I've never met someone with ADHD who has a problem calling it a disorder. It sabotages not only interpersonal relationships & the ability to live in an NT world, but our ability to meet our own expectations and wishes. Personally, I think people should call themselves whatever they feel comfortable with, but I'm not sure using a less inclusive term because it fits a non-ADHD narrative makes sense. Just my view.

@holly

“Buzzing” => motion => kinetic.

Motion has for at least the last 1000 years been used to describe the flow of thought.

Thank you!

@autismsupsoc Technically, yes. But the vast majority of people perceive kinetic as meaning visible motion. Calling it kinetic won't correct their thinking, but it does feed a misunderstanding in the general public that prevented me from getting diagnosed until I was 41. As someone with #ADHD this term harms me.

@holly

I am confused and bewildered by your toots.

If you don’t like an identity term, don’t use it for yourself.

If you don’t like others using it, make a better identity term for people to choose.

ADHD is a harmful *term* based on Science, by embracing that *term* but rejecting another one as harmful based on your opinion, you demonstrate a level of hypocrisy that we cannot navigate.

@autismsupsoc Oh! I'm always learning. That's a new one to me.

I love an "Oh THAT'S what that is" moment.

With me the frozen moments are things I'm embarrassed about. :(

@autismsupsoc Well, I love it. And I'm autistic. So at the very least, there is one datapoint.
@autismsupsoc
I really need to drop the lie that I have no cooking skill. I am clearly "weird" to my roommate, but for some reason I feel the need to lie about why there are only a few days a month (on a good month) I explore beyond my list.
I'm actually pretty good at following recipes. Probably because IT MUST BE EXACTLY A QUARTER CUP AND NOT A DROP MORE OR A DROP LESS!
Srsly, I'm flicking granules off till its just right. 🤣
@autismsupsoc > Interesting, did not know that, txs info 😁👍💯
@autismsupsoc
I guess the permanently higher stress level compares with it, too.
@autismsupsoc
@actuallyautistic
hmm.... I have other med issues that put my life span 10 years shorter than other women in my bloodline. 🤷🏻‍♀️💀👻
Hey, at least I won't have to figure out any new fangled things.
@autismsupsoc @actuallyautistic great, the math says I have 12 years left then, it is time to plan that bucket list.
@autismsupsoc
I hope so! 🤞🏻 Rs for luck!
@autismsupsoc Wait, you mean to tell me I'm not the only one who does that???

Bet ya $20 that's why devices I got new are in such great condition decades later (minus wear marks, and of course thar horrific rubbery plastic that devulcanizes in to the stickiest evil goo known to man! Coming in contact with that goo causes me the human equivalent to kernel panic)
@autismsupsoc Based on the reoccurring theme on here, I guess I go against the grain here but I don’t like cats at all. In fact, I don’t really enjoy any animal or pet. I don’t like fur and how cats randomly walk by and rub against your leg. #ActuallyAutistic #Autistic
@ahhtism @autismsupsoc I have a hatred of all cats; they are travelling sneeze factories.
@ahhtism @autismsupsoc No worries and no judgement. Cats already have enough of us "tamed" to tolerate and accept their excesses. 🐱
@ahhtism if there's one place you can find acceptance for going against the grain, it's probably #AutisticFedi I like cats, but I can see why the things you describe could be stressful or just plain no-no 😊

@ahhtism @autismsupsoc This is a good reminder that we are indeed #diverse in our #diversity. I do find comfort in #touch and #physical #warmth of others, including #furpeople.
