Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I just saw this film earlier today, after knowing almost nothing about it, and I very much liked it, possibly a favorite alongside Contact.

I got a heavy "by ND for ND" feel off this, found it well-observed, good art. I got sucked in, with huge resonance.

I expect if I wrote about why I like this (spoiler-free) then I'd come up against polarized counter-opinion.

Bonus: Jim Carey wasn't too Jim Carey (the spontaneous clown persona).

Why Working Memory is a Defining Challenge of Dyslexia

A Guide for Parents about The Central Bottleneck and why working memory is a defining challenge of Dyslexia.

Indigo Dyslexia

A gentle reminder that #neurodiversity is a thing, and the diversity of cognitive neurotypes means that the sweeping generalization you just made about human nature is probably wrong.

No, not everyone thinks the same way, or even sees the world the same way. But public discourse almost always ignores and excludes #neurodivergent (ND) folk from the conversation. Our needs are not considered and our opinions are not respected, if the neurotypical (NT) majority even remembers we exist.

I feel strongly that the path to fixing the world goes through embracing neurodiversity and making the world more inclusive of all neurotypes. The world has been the playground of the NT majority for all of recorded history, and we've seen how that goes.

#Autistic people often talk about our need for justice, or even fairness. There's a study that's famous in the autistic community for concluding that autistic people are impaired by caring too much about ethics and living by our principles, because their study showed that autisitic people would not cheat to get a benefit unfairly. In my opinion, choosing to act unethically when it gets you something is not a good thing. The whole point of ethics is not to do that! "It's OK to cheat if it helps me win" is a deranged thing to think, buy that's the standard the researchers used to conclude that it's autistic people who have a problem.

This is the kind of bullshit that is strangling our civilization. The people who can see the real problems or could fix them have been marginalized so society doesn't have to step up and deal with this death spiral of cognitive overspecialization. And yet we talk about ableism and neuronormativity like that only hurts ND folk, when it's actually hurting the whole world.

OK, so maybe this reminder wasn't as gentle as I hoped for. It's hard to talk about this without getting all worked up, but somebody has to say it. #ActuallyAutistic

It took me a long time to realize there wasn't actually anything wrong with me.

As in, I rarely did anything socially "wrong." It was just that I did something other people weren't expecting. And sometimes that gets misinterpreted as bad. 1/2

I’d love to be sitting in front of them at a table and push reward tokens forward and pull some back as they speak. “Oh, is that feeling pretty degrading and insulting?” Yeah, that’s how this makes our kids feel when you do it.

I’m in a seminar held by our local SELPA, with the goal of teaching parents how to manage their children’s behavior and encourage educational success. I’m struck how they see our children (and us) like lab rats to be prodded and managed to accomplish the correct clinical outcome. None of this asks the question “what does the child need?” Instead I’m hearing “what stimulus do we perform to motivate the output behavior we want?”

Cruise Verhalen: Horny en Historisch

Cruise Verhalen (Cruising Stories) is an archive of cruising encounters that happened in Amsterdam and beyond. Gathered from bushes, car parks and public toilets.

For Cruising Amsterdam, Barnaby reimagines his body as an archive of experiences through time and condenses these voices into a booth: step inside, listen to the stories and see what happens. You can leave your own trace, tip or service on the walls. The body is not metaphor but infrastructure. Storage. Signal. Flesh as hard drive.

Desire is unscripted and happens in real time, between strangers who clock each other without a word.An accumulation of risk, sweat, myth and queer intelligence passed from mouth to ear, from knee to concrete, from one night into the next.

THE QUEER SUPERDIVERSITY PODCAST SHOW

A podcast about the multiple identities that are present within ourselves

The Queer Superdiversity Podcast Show explores the many — often overlapping — identities we carry within ourselves. How do these different parts of us relate, influence one another, clash or harmonize? Rather than treating identity as a set of isolated labels, the podcast looks at how lived experience, culture, embodiment, desire, neurodiversity, gender and community interact in complex and sometimes unexpected ways.

Through long-form conversations and storytelling, the show examines identity not as something static but as something dynamic — formed through context, history, intimacy and imagination. Each episode invites listeners to think beyond singular narratives of “who we are” and instead approach identity as layered, relational and in motion.
