Everything, Everywhere, All at Once #solutions to #ClimateChange include producing and consuming less.

#Corporations are the worst #polluters because they #manufacture demand and need (e.g. planned obsolescence), then recklessly #pollute to meet that artificially inflated "need" for goods.

We must decrease our individual #consumerism while also forcing #businesses to stop polluting.

Ending #corporate #pollution and our rampant consumption are both required, and more.

Is this approach simply too radical to be considered? _______________________ "Reducing Consumption: The Unpopular Answer To Global Crises" Most of the proposed solutions to civilizational collapse assume stable geopolitical environments and access to large amounts of capital and resources. However, they fail to address the heart of the matter, which is ever-rising consumption. Dramatically reducing consumption is not included in these plans, except by a few advocating for degrowth. Degrowth, or negative growth, means less consumption of stuff and energy over time. Achieving a steady-state economy with lower consumption levels is essential. Either we plan for it and execute a plan that takes us down to a fraction of what we consume today, or nature will force us into a steady-state level of consumption, possibly even lower than planned. Reducing consumption is the unpopular but necessary answer to global crises. It requires rethinking our current way of life and acting in ways that prioritize sustainability and long-term stability. _______________________ The question I posed above was obviously rhetorical. But you and I know the answer. Reducing consumption is not just too radical for consideration in our capitalist culture, it's totally unthinkable. Because lowered consumption would mean less economic growth or no growth at all, and we can't have that!!! Every little bit of reduction to our contributions to #ClimateChange is good. The more we do, the better off we'll be.

Whatever helps is what we should be doing.

Everything, Everywhere, All at Once is the necessary, messy, #climate change mitigation strategy we need right now because we collectively chose to delay action until the crisis was well underway.

Yes, even working with less-than-ideal people, companies, organizations, nations, and other entities, if the results are reductions of our harmful emissions and increases to a healthy #environment, are absolutely part of a solid Everything, Everywhere, All at Once #ClimateChange mitigation strategy.

It's the results that matter at this crucial stage, not some misguided and self-defeating "purity".

The easiest and cheapest places to install solar panels are often large, undeveloped plots of land. It's why, in many places across the country, we've seen rural areas — including fragile desert ecosystems and valuable farmland turned into solar farms. Solar will likely play an important role in the country’s move away from fossil fuels but is there a smarter way to do it that doesn’t require taking up so much rural land? #Climate #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #Solar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeaQUhAOdtk

As noted a bit earlier in this thread, repurposing #ParkingLots (adding #solar) can be a highly effective and ultimately cost-efficient way to reduce overall #emissions and mitigate #ClimateChange.

Another, maybe more mid-term option could be to enhance the amount of #greenery in such lots, or to use greenery instead of or along with solar.

All combined with improved #transit, public and personal, for an Everything, Everywhere, All at Once approach.

This may not be a viable option, in terms of safety, in certain scenarios (e.g. #metropolitan #RushHour with aggressive #drivers), but in terms of cost and range, this seems like a solid and relatively "affordable" #car alternative and progress towards reducing overall #vehicle #carbon and space footprints.

Everything, Everywhere, All at Once #ClimateChange mitigation means making improvements any way we can, not waiting on mythical "perfect" solutions.

Check out this cool solar-powered Aptera EV that supposedly gets 1,600 km on a single charge. The solar panels integrated into its design can add an extra 64 km of power a day, leading the company to claim that some users may never even have to charge it. ☀️ The company apparently has 26,000+ pre-orders for the vehicle, which they hope to start delivering by the end of the year. The base model costs US$25,900 – which doesn't seem insane to me? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDX4mWP9TIU #solar #ev #SolarPunk
