@pluralistic on why ‘voting with your wallet’ won’t win elections. A blog post from 9/2025. While Cory makes some very good points, and I agree with his assessment that #Billionaires pay to control the narrative, I do believe that consumer ‘demand destruction’, that is refraining from all purchases other than essentials, is a potentially powerful tool for change. Yes, it takes motivation, organization and mobilization on a large scale to accomplish, but if ‘the people’ are looking for a way to disrupt the status quo, force price reductions, and punish corporate greed…then refusing to play the #consumption game and restricting purchases belongs in our strategy playbook. Cory acknowledges this in his post and recommends conscientious consumption that focuses on local businesses, mom-and-pop shops; to avoid rewarding #corporations owned by #oligarchs and wealthy investors. #voting #elections

I planned spending today at a hospital, and plan to repeat this three more times this year. Naturally, being part of a huge hospital corporation, it runs on procedures, sometimes problematic. People too, of course, sometimes problematic, as the US is driven into increasngly severe shortages of medical personnel. I survived the treatment, though, encountering only 4-5 screwups (ranging from inadequate --that was the doorbell?!--labeling to a pharmacy blooper).
