Dance of the midges. Every little speck and bokeh disc in the photograph is a little insect flying in the sunset haze.

Paracorymbia stragulata (fam. Cerambycidae)

[EN] I posted another photo of this species before, but this one is better. I've realized the colours of this species vary from one individiual to another: antennae can be fully black or show alternating segments in red and black, femora and tibiae can be red or black and the black on the elytra can be bigger or smaller.
I was trying to always use an ISO 1600 to be able to close the diaphragma a lot, so I could have more deep of field. This photo clearly turned out dark, but I couldn't increase the exposition much because of the white flower.

Insect repellent may not always keep mozzies away, study suggests
By Ellen Phiddian

Scientists have found that mosquitoes in the lab can be trained to connect the smell of a widely used repellent with food, but repellents are still the best way to protect yourself.

A tiny creature was walking along a blade of grass; I couldn't get any closer because there was water in the way, so I stretched as far as I could to capture the image. Upon reviewing the photographs on my computer, I discovered that the little walker on the dry blade of grass was carrying a pseudoscorpion clinging to its body—traveling as a stowaway. Pseudoscorpions are completely harmless and utterly fascinating arachnids. Sometimes they travel by "hitchhiking" on other insects—a behavior known as phoresy—to make their way to new locations.
