🇪🇺 The #European Commission has unveiled “AccelerateEU”, a package of short- and long-term measures to shield households and #businesses from rising #fossil fuel costs and reduce reliance on imports. Triggered by higher #energy prices linked to the Middle East crisis, the #EU has spent an extra €24 billion on imports without increased supply. The plan focuses on coordinated action among Member States, including fuel storage and emergency measures, alongside the creation of a Fuel Observatory to monitor supply. It proposes targeted, temporary support such as energy vouchers and tax relief for vulnerable groups and industries. Structural steps include accelerating electrification, expanding renewable energy, strengthening power grids and boosting investment, including private finance. The strategy aims to improve energy security, affordability and resilience by shifting towards clean, domestically produced energy.
