One more quick byproduct of my MDEM development: a bivariate map integrating volumetric structural data (SAR) with surface temperature (LST). This approach identifies the exceptionally intensive dissipative role of volumetric vegetation structure (trees and tall shrubs). By accounting for these high-performance cooling elements, we can better understand how they supplement traditional landscaping to enhance the city's overall thermal resilience.

My instinct is that this true of any sort of AI system and the people who use it:

“Geospatial intelligence is not simply about processing data; it’s about understanding the place, the relationships, patterns, and contextual nuances that supply data meaning. AI can accelerate analysis, but it cannot replace the interpretive skill, legacy knowledge, and discernment of geospatial professionals.”

I love the regular #OSM website updates posted on the forum, great to peruse the incremental changes that keep making the public face of #OpenStreetMap better, and to see recognition of all contributors. ❤️

What’s new on the OpenStreetMap website?

More MapLibre, smoother experience, a bunch of fixes It’s that time again, when we highlight the work made by contributors to the OSM Website. Here they are! Towards MapLibre We continue a careful transition to use MapLibre in all instances of the slippy map. Still some way to go; here is how it went this month: We fixed some issues with the map controls, including visual styling fixes and making sure they are visible on the map for user diary entries. “HIGHLIGHTS:
• Data-driven Adaptive Thresholding (AT) for snowmelt detection using PMW CETB data.
• AT improves melt detection accuracy to ≤ 1.0 day MAE over legacy methods in Alaska.
• AT captures spatial and regional melt variability linked to snow class and terrain.
• AT is sensor-agnostic, scalable across frequencies and polarizations for broad use..."
