Philosophy – Brief Existence tote bag

A Scientist and Philosopher bag based on the Brief Existence photograph.

What is knowledge? What is reality? What is existence? Perhaps time to stop consuming ever more digital media and start thinking and asking why. I took this photo in Place de la Palud, Lausanne, Switzerland. A man was entertaining children by blowing soap bubbles. Against a blue sky it looks wonderful but the bubble only lives for a very short time. Many people in so many situations and parts of the world do not think issues through and just accept their life as the way it is. They are often told by others what to think and are not capable of critical thinking that is often looked upon unfavourably by those controlling others’ lives. (S&P)

The human race is addicted to burning fossil fuels to the detriment to life on Earth. Carbon dioxide emissions have been released in large quantities since the start of the industrial revolution. The level now seen in the atmosphere has not been at such a level since before the start of this current series of ice ages around 2.58 million years ago. The implications are that parts of the planet will become uninhabitable and there will be mass extinctions of different forms of life which may include Homo sapiens. (S&P)

So many of us take the natural world for granted. Yet without it we would not be here and therefore it is time that we took its importance more seriously. Bees and other pollinators are under threat from modern agriculture but instead of trying to protect them we look to technology such as drones and robots to replace them if they go extinct. Humans, at least some of them, do not see the problems that we cause of being a concern. It’s time to change our attitudes as a species. (S&P)
