Did some more research on woodlands in California. There’s a place with that name, but wooded areas seem to be forests, plus a heckton of parks and some nature reserves. Woodlands are perhaps too English.

Decided which my characters arrive in and which town or city they reach first. Cycling one will be travelling between towns in the same city or it looks like they’ll be cycling for hours.

Fanfic is set in the world of the tv show Private Practice, though those characters aren’t the leads. So California. To keep the youngest kid with his family because reasons. Also nine kids is a little easier to write than ten, though not by much perhaps. Great idea I had 😏
