Today I was in the city, travelling to a slightly unfamiliar location. I decided to try the CoMaps app on my phone for navigation.

This thing was easy to use, and the voice navigation it provided was flawless. I'm impressed. The about page says the app provides "Free and open navigation with privacy - built by the community."

Inspired by my brothers new navigation https://joelvonrotz.ch/ I created my own custom navigation. In fact it is already live on my website. Once I my brother sees it, he will roll his eyes and think "What else did I expect!". The new navigation is a terminal prompt!

As part of de-Googling last year, I moved from Google Maps to OSMAnd+.

Oh man.

OSMAnd+ is less of a Google Maps replacement and more of a full-on mobile #GIS tool that also happens to do (offline) navigation, #GPX recording/exporting, and a seemingly endless amount of configuration. As the name suggests, it uses #OpenStreetMap.

I am genuinely impressed.

It does have a couple quirks. The #navigation and #route planning sections could be more intuitive. But those aside, OSMAnd+ has become my default mapping/navigation app.
