(He was WW2 generation, so there was no chance he was ever going to have heard of Autism in the way that we have. I'm fairly sure that my Mum had ADHD too -- since it's possible I have both.)

Lol, aye, that checks out. My Dad has passed now (a long time ago) and I think he might have been okay with the idea if someone had explained it to him, but in 80s Wales, there was no concept that Autism was anything other than Rainman/that lad who did really good art from memory.
