my god, looking back at five nights at freddy's 2, it's amazing to me that there was such debate around mangle's gender. because mangle is a he/him. this is not an opinion. this is not an interpretation. it's simply a fact.

mangle is foxy. and foxy is a he/him. and i'm not getting this out of my ass. this is a direct quote from one of the phone calls you get during the nights of fnaf 2:

"they tried to remake foxy, you know. they thought the first one was too scary, so they redesigned him to be more kid-friendly and put him in kid's cove. to keep the toddlers entertained, you know? but kids these days just can't keep their hands to themselves. the staff literally had to put foxy back together at the end of every shift. so eventually they just stopped trying and left him as some kind of take-apart put-back-together attraction. now he's just a mess of part. i think the employees referred to him as just 'the mangle'."

and yet, even though it's stated multiple times, mangle's gender caused some fucking flamewars on forums and so on. things got so stupid that five games later, in ultimate custom night, the developer, in the description of mangle called it both a he and a she to troll people.

so why am i going on this rant suddenly? well, it's the reason why people debated his gender.

because this new foxy, the mangle, has lipstick. that's it. i'm not even kidding.

a character wearing lipstick was enough for people to start arguing extremely intensely, and for a very long time, and i wouldn't be surprised if the debate was still going on today, about his gender, even though his gender is stated multiple fucking times audibly in the game. it is apparently cosmically impossible for a masculine character to wear lipstick.

i swear to god, cis-heteronormativity rots your brain. it's fucking crazy.

The UK government's plan to send asylum seekers to #Rwanda became law this morning. In this blog post for Engenderings, I argue that the policy is not merely a cruel and cynical (not to mention expensive) deterrent, it is also colonial and cisnormative.

And the Rwanda plan is comparable to another racialised and gendered policy: the detention of migrants aboard a huge barge.
