The UK government's plan to send asylum seekers to #Rwanda became law this morning. In this blog post for Engenderings, I argue that the policy is not merely a cruel and cynical (not to mention expensive) deterrent, it is also colonial and cisnormative.

And the Rwanda plan is comparable to another racialised and gendered policy: the detention of migrants aboard a huge barge.
