I wrote a fair amount. It works out to about two chapters, although I'm not going strictly scene-by-scene, so it's hard to put an exact number on how many chapters I have done now. But I'm calling it about 11½, and I was at around 9½ at the beginning of May.

I slowed down and backed off a bit from my earlier "pedal to the metal" approach. Things were getting quite mechanical, and unlike me. I needed to take some time to get back to interjecting more theories, observations, and interpretive aspects into the narrative(s) I'm working on.

This whole project I am doing is not so much about creating a history or a biography. It's not just about recording events, incidents, achievements and failures. It's about interpreting or re-interpreting things through multiple perspectives.  The more time I spend on alternate interpretations, the more I am providing myself with tools to move forward on other projects.

It makes sense, too. Bursts of inspiration are nice but technical questions (like 'how do I adequately depict an utterly confusing POV and inner life without loosing the reader?) take patience and tinkering, for me at least.

My new and improved writing routine of at least 100 but never ever more that 600 words per day. Other than the steady output, the most important effect is that I am finally getting a grip on the protagonist's (not quite human and temporally complicated ) POV and voice.

I finally thought of a way to start the final #ZackJackson novel in a way that both interests and inspires me.

First, I got a fantastic blurb that really gets my book. I slightly rewrote three endings which had never really satisfied me and put the lid on further revisions. Did a copyedit read through & printed out a copy for my girlfriend/editor for her final copyedits.

I’m behind where I wanted to be, but still moving ahead.

This month I came to understand WWWMTTW has an audience and I have friends. We came together in Memphis where my 6-year-old grandson joined me at the podium to make it as delightfully odd as the novel.

We loved the Ellenpalooza where we three Ellens waxed eloquent in the iconic 100 Men Hall.

We braved Substack Live to join the Rooted Bottom Readers Book Club to talk about the book.

Exhaustion has rolled up behind me, but it was all good.
