Why is it that everytime I mention an issue with one Linux distribution the immediate response from 99% of people is to suggest I switch to their distribution of choice?

It doesn’t help. Not a single bit. I don’t really understand what people do with their computers all day but it seems distro hopping is an actual “activity”.

I'm having a moment. If you know me well enough, I do run into depressive episodes where I eventually feel a little sad after a moment of joy.

I sometimes second guess myself and criticize everything I do and say it's not good enough.

I take medicine, but idk man. I just feel down in the dumps. The medicine works; it's just that I sometimes run into these issues no matter what.

For context, mental illness runs in the family. My aunt has OCD, my other aunt has depression, my late mama had bipolar... Could that have anything to do with it?

Interviewing Ed Zitron (https://www.wheresyoured.at) or having him on your podcast seems to be such an easy thing for the host. Start with, "So, Ed, whats up?" then listen to him rant uninterrupted for 50 minutes about whatever AI topic has pissed him off today, then end with, "thanks for your time, Ed!".

10/10, could listen to Ed destroy AI all day, every day.

#Enshittification strikes again.

I have unfortunately been unable to find a workable non-enshittified solution to the health data monitoring spreadsheet I keep on my phone. Apple stored my first one to the cloud without telling me and it got deleted because I didn't know that.

After a fruitless search for an alternative that met my needs, I ended up just making a new spreadsheet (and periodically checking to make sure it is NOT stored to the cloud).

Every now and then, for no discernible reason, Apple decides to activate something called "Magic Fill" that suggests a value for the next cell. That value might be the previous day's value (in which case, why am I bothering to track it? I could just set it as a constant somewhere) or it might be the average of some unstated selection of previous values (again, in which case, why am I bothering to enter new data?)

The whole point of a spreadsheet is to capture *accurate* data! If I rely on some algorithm to generate the data, why am I bothering to put data in the spreadsheet at all?

Why not just run the algorithm to tell me what the world should be and skip the spreadsheet entirely?

Obviously, the actual state of the world is less relevant than what the computer, without any sensors at all, thinks it ought to be!

Długo myślałem, że największym sukcesem dużych (i nie tylko) marek odzieżowych jest to, że udało im się obniżyć jakość i cenę produkcji do jakiś abstrakcyjnych wartości. Głównie chodzi mi o same gramatury materiałów i trwałość. Innymi słowy - gównowacenie.

Zmieniłem zdanie.

Największym sukcesem są duże, ogromne loga na ubraniach i akcesoriach. Zaczęliśmy traktować te wielkie znaczki jako element estetyczny. Z kilometra widać, że to Adidas, albo Levi's. Plecaki są tylko powierzchnią reklamową na ogromne logo Vans. Buty Nike mają logo wpisane w design na stałe już.
Naszym komfortem jest, że możemy wybrać czy chcemy mieć na koszulce logo Adidasa z 1971 czy z 1991 r.

I use #IONOS tiny #VPS mainly because it gives me a public IP for 1 Euro/Month. But boy do they suck. I regularly cannot log into the management portal and get this error:

Their support is quick and they even call you back. But I’d rather not get that error in first place.
