For the body to contain Spirit, the body would have to come first. And it does not. The body is part of the appearance. It is in the field of experience. It is not the source of experience.

“Nothing I see means anything” does not mean, in the crude sense, that nothing matters.

It means nothing I see has the meaning I have given it by habit, memory, fear, preference, injury, history, or desire.

The chair is not meaningless as a chair. Pete is not meaningless. The dogs are not meaningless. The room, the body, the morning, the weather, the pain, the breath, the stroke, the old stories — none of it has the fixed meaning my mind keeps pasting onto it.

It means:

“This does not mean what I think it means.”

That is the mercy in it.

The ego looks at everything and immediately says, “This is good. This is bad. This threatens me. This proves something. This must be defended. This must be fixed. This is mine. This is loss. This is safety. This is danger.”

ACIM is gently cutting the glue.

Nothing I see means anything until I decide what it is for. And if I let peace decide, everything becomes useful for peace.

So the lesson is not nihilism.

It is release.

I look at the cup, the fire, Pete, the dogs, my hand, my breath, the room, and I quietly admit:

“I do not actually know what this is.”

That is not stupidity.

That is sanity returning.

Because the frightened sock puppet in my head has been giving meaning to everything for decades, and frankly, its reviews have been mixed.

Yes, “the apocalypse is right on schedule” is funny because it is both a joke and not entirely a joke.

Humanity does have a remarkable talent for standing in a burning room, checking the calendar, and saying, “Good, at least we’re on time.”

Every generation seems convinced it has booked the end of the world personally. The signs are always there. The prophets are always ready. The headlines are always wearing theatrical makeup. Someone somewhere is always explaining that this time it really is the final act.

And yet tomorrow morning someone still has to empty the dishwasher.

That is the real comedy. The horsemen of the apocalypse may be circling the suburbs, but Pete still wants to know whether we need milk, the dogs still need breakfast, and someone has left a wet towel on the bed.

So yes, the apocalypse is right on schedule.

But so is lunch.

I understand the longing for a powerful being to restore order. Many traditions speak in that language.

But I wonder if the deeper invitation is much closer than waiting.

Perhaps order begins wherever love is no longer postponed. Wherever kindness is chosen instead of attack. Wherever truth is not used as a weapon. Wherever fear is seen clearly and not obeyed.

I do not know how the great traditions finally resolve their prophecies, and I do not need to.

What I can see is simpler than that.

Every moment asks whether I will choose fear or love.

That is where restoration begins for me.

Intermittent Fasting does not make a person good. It is not moral, magical, or superior.

But when fasting becomes gentle and ordinary, it can remove a lot of noise.

The body stops demanding quite so loudly. The constant cycle of wanting, reaching, tasting, comforting, filling, and wanting again begins to quieten. There is more space between impulse and action.

And kindness lives in that space.

Fasting teaches me that I do not have to answer every urge. A sensation can arise, be felt, and pass. Hunger can appear without becoming a command. Discomfort can be present without needing a story.

That feels very close to forgiveness.

Not fighting the body. Not obeying it blindly. Just not making it king.

When there is less reactivity, there is less defence. When there is less defence, there is less attack. And when attack falls away, kindness is what remains.

Fasting only reinforces kindness when it stays gentle. If it becomes control, pride, punishment, purity, or superiority, it has become ego in a thinner coat.

For me, fasting is not deprivation. It is a quieter life.

Without kindness, truth easily becomes a weapon. With kindness, truth becomes recognisable. It stops arguing and starts healing.

Ancient teachings from India and Tibet often speak of breath, attention, stillness, and the loosening of the separate self. I do not meet these ideas as museum pieces. I meet them in a modern body, in ordinary daily breathwork, sitting quietly, breathing slowly, and noticing what falls away.

There is something humbling about experiencing an ancient practice in a modern life. The language may be old, but the breath is happening now. The body may belong to this century, but the doorway feels timeless.

Modern physics does not prove these teachings, and it does not need to. But it has certainly made the old, solid view of matter feel less complete. What once looked fixed, separate, and obvious now appears more fluid, relational, and mysterious.

For me, the important thing is not winning an argument about reality. It is whether what we see and practise makes us gentler, clearer, and less willing to harm.

Without kindness, truth easily becomes a weapon. With kindness, truth becomes recognisable. It stops arguing and starts healing.

Time to refresh my #introduction as it's been a while since the first one!

See profile for some basics. These days I'm unemployed but gardening a bit, recovering from 37 years of industrial burnout, and surviving 6-7 years of bladder cancer.
