This is for a friend, Tivoli, a carnivorous vegetarian:

1. The Road Not Taken
Two leaves of lettuce lay upon the plate,
And sorry I could not eat them both,
I watched Tivoli, slender, black and straight,
Choose crisp green paths with patient, quiet faith—
And that has made his waistline growth.

2. Prufrock + The Wasteland
In the kitchen the women come and go
speaking of arugula.

Tivoli, the slender cat,
regards the lettuce leaf—
a pale green moon
against the black-and-white dusk
of his whiskered face.

And I have seen the eternal feline,
yawning, then chewing—
not sardines, not mice,
but romaine.

(Apologies: both are AI)

The raid

I made the mistake of turning my back on a freshly opened pack of Dreemies (I had resealed it) for 5 minutes while I made a cup of coffee - results below.

Of course Macavity was no where to be seen, but I know the culprit (and it was not the black cat). Precautions taken

[Television] is a medium of entertainment which permits millions of people to listen to the same joke at the same time, and yet remain lonesome.

T.S. Eliot's Prufrock isn't just about modernist angst.

For many of us, it's a devastatingly accurate portrait of neurodivergent paralysis and the exhaustion of masking.

At least, since my late diagnosis and revisiting this poem, it is now my revised view.

In my new article for Sonnet Sleuths, I explore the poem through my own lens as a queer, disabled, and AuDHD educator.

"West End Girls" is a song by the English #synthpop duo #PetShopBoys. Written by #NeilTennant and #ChrisLowe, the song was released twice as a single. The song's lyrics are concerned with class and the pressures of inner-city life in #London which were inspired partly by #TSEliot's poem #TheWasteLand. It was generally well received by contemporary music critics and has been frequently cited as a highlight in the duo's career.

When I arise in the morning, I am torn by the twin desires to reform the world and to enjoy the world. This makes it difficult to plan my day.
