#FreeSoftwareAdvent today is #EasyTAG!

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/easytag

Point it at a directory of music files and it shows a spreadsheet-like view of their tags. Make bulk changes by selecting files, updating the tag, and hit T+. Easy! (just like the name says). Even supports bulk adding images.

And a bonus one today #Kid3!

https://kid3.kde.org/

This is also for tags, but is maybe less easy, but more powerful. Mostly I use this when I really need to clean something up.

Welcome to GNOME GitLab

GitLab
since #easytag sucks now (cddb nannigans), I looked for a replacement. #Eartag
edit id3, pull all metadata, rename files based on tags. job done
#Linux

OK so the immediate problem is that latest version of #EasyTAG was released in 2016. And that it doesn't support network drives on Windows. AND that it doesn't actually SAVE the files it edits.

Whatever. I'mma install #MP3tag. Hear it's what the cool kids use.

I'm feeling really old school. I'm installing #EasyTAG. So that I can tag the MP3s correctly. For playing on my cellphone. With my wired headphones. Kids these days have no idea how atrocious the tags the record companies use actually are.

Also why wasn't this album in #MusicBrainz?

#metadata #music #archival #musicbrainz

Found out about #easytag for editing cd tags; even easier than #Picard! And it can be set up with #gnudb Now to figure out if I can get #emms to use it instead of random python scripts... https://gnudb.org/howto.php

Here's a #Linux situating I have never seen before (and I've seen some weird shit) my home directory has a folder I use as a file inbox, every app can access and modify everything in that folder EXCEPT, starting just today, #EasyTag simply skips that folder in its dir listing, even when explicitly given on the command line! I've been using this exact setup for over a decade.

When is a folder not a folder? 🤔
