I've spent much more time on this than I thought it would need, but the tree impostors lighting is starting to work more decently. I've also improved the trees distribution (but so far there is still a single repeated tree model).

There is still a lot of popping, but I expect it would be less visible during normal gameplay (players are not supposed to fly above the forest at high speed).

- implemented a basic state machine for reuse across entities and applied it to the player
- break down NPC/static entity feature into appropriate tickets
- initial work on baseline NPC/static entity ticket
- considering whether I should start baking internationalization/translation into the game now, before any actual dialogue is written

one of my (and others cc @kahzn) problem with Godot is, that it doesn't shows signals that were connected via the UI but whos targets
* no longer exist (mostly renamed)
* parameters have changed

The open github issue https://github.com/godotengine/godot-proposals/issues/8982 adresses it but until it is fixed I made an addon that helps with that: Godot Signal Checker

After many iterations on damage systems for static objects, I’ve got a version that I can apply to mecha that creates the visual feedback of localized persistent damage.
There’s more I can still do to push it further, but this is the bare minimum with decent performance I wanted to have in case I need to stop building more tech and focus on gameplay. #gamedev #godot #godotengine #vfx #indiedev
