It's here!

Know your rights. A resource for trans people in the UK following the Supreme Court ruling on the Equality Act.

The Know your rights resource has been reviewed by a team of lawyers to help you (and us) feel confident in knowing your rights.

You'll find it at https://transactual.org.uk/know-your-rights

(And yes, launching it on #IDAHOBLIT was a coincidence)

New Arrival of #RetroTech Old Tat at AVAV Towers

Laser Etched #LaserDisc

Been after one for ages, but they are silly money, this one wasn’t. I’m not an Anime fan either, but all the ones I’m aware of, are

Looks lovely, though it’s hard to photograph.

Before anyone asks, it’s the ‘blank’ side, but it does play a short ‘play other side’ message. Sadly not @LaserdiscTurtle :-)

Anyway, more tat for the collection

Nothing special to look at, but contains a rare find

1” IVC Format Video. Analogue, Helical Scan. 8” Spool offered 1 hour recording. Spool is dated 1973

I seem to remember reading International Video Corporation was founded by a group of former AMPEX employees

Public Service info from the volunteer chief archivist at datamuseum.dk:

NEVER use flash-based storage for archival purposes.

Not CF, not SD, not USB-sticks, not SSD, not NVME, nor any other flash-technology based storage media.

Flash is simply not a stable storage mechanism: Just like Dynamic RAM it will eventually forget your bits.

Unfortunately there are no good choices for long term data storage, but flash is a particular bad choice.

My largest hard disk drive. This beast is a 72 MB (MFM) / 105 MB (RLL) 5.25" full-height drive by #Toshiba, model MK56FB.

Next to it is another hard disk drive by Toshiba for size reference. A bit of cheating of course, as that one is only 1.8". 😜

The Good Law Project is fundraising to challenge the UK Supreme Court's recent ruling on in the European Court of Human Rights.

If you are unaware, the ruling of the UK Supreme Court was that under the Equality Act 2010, 'sex' was to be interpreted as 'biological sex', rather than gender. This upended over a decade of existing practice and interpretation.

If you are able to contribute, please do: this ruling was devastating blow to the community, undermining our expectations and safety.

Boosts would be welcome - the more people see this, the better the chances of them hitting their goal.

I have an old set of 8in floppy disks from 1985. They are digital type faces for the Comp/Edit system. This included document accurately describes the size of these disks, taking up the entire bed of a truck. #digipres
