my complaints to the #OpenUniversity sent on the 23/06/25 for which, besides 2 emails saying they'll reply within 10 days, i am still waiting to get a meaningful reply:

i am a student criminology and psychology at the #ou. i am hereby complaining about the fact that the ou spends student's tuition fees on contracts and so called partnerships with companies that are actively involved in the mass murder of fellow human beings for profit.
the university has a legal duty to uphold domestic and international law, including by cutting ties with companies linked to ongoing #warcrimes.
#BAE weapons have been linked to mass civilian deaths in both #Gaza and #Yemen, confirmed by #UN investigations and independent human rights organisations.

BAE arms authoritarian regimes including #SaudiArabia, #Egypt, #UAE, and #Bahrain—all of which are known for state violence, #repression, and #torture.

In 2024, BAE posted record #profits of over £2.5 billion, profiting from #weapons sold to governments actively involved in #MilitaryAssaults on civilian populations.

BAE has faced multiple major #corruption scandals, including a £286 million #UK settlement and a $400 million fine in the #US over #bribery in arms deals.

#University partnerships whitewash BAE’s image, giving it legitimacy and access to students—despite its central role in the global war machine.

The Open University’s #collaboration with BAE helps normalise the arms trade, making #students #complicit unless we speak out.
War is not only deadly—it is #ecocidal. BAE profits from destruction that fuels #ClimateCollapse, yet the #OU claims to value #sustainability.
why is the ou engaging in this #criminal behaviour for years now, whilst teaching me about so called #crime?
the university has a moral imperative to defend freedom and justice across the world, including the human rights of its academic colleagues in the #Palestinian territories.
#Israel has destroyed all universities in Gaza, and over 300 #schools and #libraries. Education is a target in Gaza, and the OU’s academic peers are at risk.
i demand the open university to immediately #divest our tuition fees from b.a.e. , #microsoft, #alphabet, #cisco and others involved in supporting and enabling #genocide and war across the world.
i am currently on a year off from studying because of #MentalHealth conditions, which only have worsened because of this.
i am seriously considering ending my studies because my #MoralIntegrity is more important than anything in my life, and i am not willing to get a huge debt that i know is being used to kill people. that makes me complicit with war crimes and genocide.
besides , i can't take the study material seriously when the ou is #enabling, #normalising and #funding criminal conduct by the companies it contracts to deliver services and infrastructure, and then refuses to take #accountability.

I still am unable to go back here physically because it would break my heart too much. I spent almost 9 months, on/off, in the forest - trying to save the old growth trees here. The trees you see on the mountain slopes here are all gone. They were clearcut since this photo was taken from a resistance camp, higher up in the valley. I have seen aerial photos of what this spot looked like in 2023 - so many damn #ecocidal clearcuts into #AncientForest groves. This backs into #Carmannah #Walbran Park - which was also under threat of logging for awhile. It had to be blockaded before protection was granted. Avatar Grove & a few other #OldGrowth areas on Southern #VancouverIsland were given protection because activists fought hard to gain it.

"From Mother Earth to our bodies, in a #capitalist system everything that can be reduced to a commodity will be. As long as it can be sold, bought, or otherwise exploited, nothing is sacred. So long as the lands (and by extension our bodies) are viewed this way we will have conflict, as #capitalism is the enemy of Mother Earth and all that we hold to be #sacred.

"In its base definition, capitalism is an economic and political system based on an unregulated or 'free' market, private property, competition, and limited government intervention. But the definition obscures the reality that capitalism is based upon extreme social #exploitation and dispossession, #EcologicalDestruction, #hyperindividualism and #materialism, and its history is rooted in #WhiteSupremacy, #cishetereopatriarchy, #genocide, and #slavery.

"To be anti-capitalist is not enough, anti-capitalist propositions rooted in #industrialism and #extractivism are just as invested in #ecocidal (therefore anti-Indigenous) economies. Killing the Earth is killing Indigenous existence, #Colonizers must religiously convince themselves and others that the world is already dead to justify their ongoing violence against the Earth and existence. In the face of global ecological ruin, some attempt to further convince themselves that killing the Earth just a little bit less is an appropriate response."
