Fifa ‘negeert schaamteloos internationaal recht’

Mensenrechtenorganisaties hebben het besluit van de Fifa om niks te doen flink gekraakt. Fairsquare noemde de houding van de bond in deze kwestie ‘vanaf het eerste moment laf en niet oprecht’. Steve Cockburn, plaatsvervangend directeur van Amnesty International, zei dat de Fifa “faalt in het handhaven van zijn eigen reglementen en het internationaal recht op schaamteloze wijze negeert”.

Niet alleen Fairsquare en Amnesty stellen dat het klip-en-klaar is dat de Westelijke Jordaanoever Palestijns grondgebied is. Vorig jaar schreef een groep prominente academici, historici en juristen, onder wie hoogleraren internationaal recht, al een brief aan de Fifa over wedstrijden in Israëlische nederzettingen op de Jordaanoever. Volgens de ondertekenaars, onder wie ook Israëliërs, was er sprake van een illegale bezetting door Israël.

En dus hoefde de Fifa zich volgens hen helemaal niet bezig te houden met de precieze juridische status van het gebied, maar met de vraag of Israëlische clubs in nederzettingen door zouden moeten gaan met het spelen van wedstrijden.

#Israel wants to show the #world that it can get away with anything. It wants to totally destroy #Iran not only as a #state, but as a #people.

#Alcohol isn't inherently #subversive.

Making alcohol more widespread is a tactic #colonizers have deliberately used to constrain #resistance. Alcohol makes it harder to be aware of what's happening and react with #agency and deliberation. It also keeps you dependent on a very #capitalist industry, giving it your #money. And structuring #social life around alcohol excludes a lot of #disabled and recovering people and #kids--people with direct experiences being #oppressed by #empire.

I am so sick to my stomach after hearing about the centuries of atrocities committed by #colonizers and #whitesupremacists... especially after finding out that SA, pillaging, theft of land, and slavery that there were even more things that I thought were unthinkable... going beyond what I think I've been somewhat desensitized to... #cannibalism and #angelstrumpet adds yet another layer that I was unprepared to deal with.

As I stand with both my privileges and marginalizations I want to puke...
