The Ecological Mind: ecology, research, creativity

Low levels of C02 released from 'dead' soil, months and years after it was irradiated, may indicate that "the chemistry of life is not exclusive to life."

The idea that pre-existing, metabolism-like reactions of organic molecules were harnessed and accelerated by early life seems plausible. However, what is not explored in this article however, is that soil itself is at least partially a product of biological activity - rock weathering in the absence of life would produce something different. I can't help but wonder if that would make a difference.

I’m always amazed by how we applied Engineering rigor and analysis to soil. Something that’s so different from area to area. Just these two images can help classify a type of soil and, by extension, be able to determine its properties. I love all things #soil and #hydrology

Microplastics contamination in our gardening! I tend to forget that some compost might be high in microplastics, and honestly I rarely consider the many detriments that would bring.

In Uganda, kneeling down when greeting someone or else doing something is a sign of love and respect.
Our young learners are taught and inspired to love plants and the soil.
In this case, they commit themselves to protect nature ,soil and also grow their own plants even at their respective homes and this aligns with our vision and mission.

Education isn't only shown through high grades of education but also an experience in growing what we should eat is the best.
There are people who never went for school and they are living but there is no one who went to school without feeding who is living .
Feeding is the intersection part of life, let us solve hunger problems together even through training young people

Why Mud Is Brown or Black: Iron, Oxygen, and Color

Why mud is brown or black comes down to iron, oxygen, water, and organic matter shaping the quiet chemistry of saturated soil.
