After having triggered a health crisis in Gaza, Israel benefits and brings the healthcare of the West Bank to collapse. Haaretz accuses Netanyahu of the silence of the West.

Facing the silence of the West on Israel’s military conduct in the West Bank, the Israeli daily Haaretz is pointing the finger at the government of Benjamin Netanyahu. A prominent article on the prestigious newspaper is titled “After Gaza, Israel is Now Causing the Collapse of the Palestinian Healthcare System,” in which it is argued that Tel Aviv’s seizure of Palestinian customs revenues has exacerbated the debt of the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

As a result of this economic crisis, the article continues, the Palestinian Authority may soon no longer be able to guarantee even essential healthcare services. In Haaretz’s analysis, it is highlighted how the debt accumulated by the Ministry of Health towards external suppliers has reached 2.6 billion shekels, equivalent to approximately $907 million. A figure that may seem contained, but, according to the newspaper, corresponds to almost the entire budget projected for 2025, estimated at around 2.89 billion shekels.

After unleashing a health crisis in Gaza, Israel retaliates and brings the healthcare of the West Bank to collapse. Haaretz accuses Netanyahu in the silence of the West.

Faced with these alarming figures, Haaretz continues, all public sector employees, including doctors and nurses, are currently receiving only half their salary. But there’s more. With the budget now almost exhausted, most medications are no longer available in state pharmacies and supplies of life-saving medicines, such as those for treating cancer and kidney diseases, are rapidly dwindling.

A shortage that risks having dramatic consequences, as many patients live far below the poverty line and cannot afford to purchase the necessary medicines on the private market.

For all these reasons, healthcare professionals cited in the article describe the Palestinian healthcare system as a reality now “on the verge of collapse.”

The article “After having unleashed a health crisis in Gaza, Israel retaliates and brings the healthcare of the West Bank to collapse. Haaretz accuses Netanyahu in the silence of the West” appears to be the first on LA NOTIZIA.

Fratoianni: Israeli settlers are illegal, solidarity with Palestine is an act of justice.

AGI/Vista - “They slow down and prevent it, because in fact, the positioning of our country prevents Europe from making a just decision. ‘Justice for Palestine’ is the title of this initiative, of this campaign. It’s about reaffirming justice, the idea that in the face of endless crimes, crimes of war, against humanity, genocide, the annexation of the West Bank, the systematic violation of international law, as we have seen once again with the flotilla, the international community must do something concrete that goes beyond appeals, or goes beyond selective outrage that, if possible, makes people even angrier. Selective outrage, right? Selective measures. Now we will sanction Ben-Gvir because he behaved very badly. The point is that Ben-Gvir is not an exception, not a mistake of the system. Ben-Gvir is a mirror, an expression of the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, of a precise political line that has in the destruction of international law, the lives of Palestinians, the freedom of Palestinians, a declared political objective. So this million plus signatures collected in a very short time in Europe, and that we want to continue to grow, is a response, that we have seen extraordinary in squares throughout Europe, in this country, against the hypocrisy, the inertia and the stagnation of governments,” said Nicola Fratoianni of Avs at a press point for Justice For Palestine at the City of the Other Economy. Francesca Albanese supports the petition launched by Il Fatto Quotidiano: “The Meloni government should lift its veto on sanctions against Israel.”

The Meloni government should lift the veto.” Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, supports the petition launched by Il Fatto Quotidiano on the IoScelgo platform to ask Italy not to oppose further European sanctions against Israel and the suspension of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Israel. It is not a symbolic move; Israel is a small country, and sanctions for Albanese would be an effective tool to stop Israeli violence: “Suspending the trade agreement can help to stop the aggression that is being carried out not only against Palestinians, but also against Lebanon and other countries in the region.”

The Association Agreement with the European Union, recalls Albanese, is the framework that makes the EU “Israel’s first trading partner.” Suspending it does not mean, she clarifies, denying the right to security: “What Israel is doing is not protecting itself, but endangering the lives of other people and other peoples.” From this, support for the Il Fatto’s request: that Italy stop using its political weight to prevent a measure that, according to Albanese, would be consistent with international law and with the same European law, which provides for a suspension clause in the event of a violation of human rights.

The Rapporteur also rejects the hypocritical and surreal distinction between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ in the extremist government of Netanyahu, with Ben Gvir isolated as a scapegoat: “It’s not that while Netanyahu was giving certain instructions the rest of the government opposed, it’s not that while the government advanced the Parliament rebelled.” The case of the death penalty for Palestinians, she recalls to ilfattoquotidiano.it, shows a much broader political consensus than what is reported by Israel’s bellicistic propaganda.

In Israel, says Albanese, the discrimination against Palestinians is not just a part of the right-wing government, but is a social, cultural, media, and institutional problem. “It’s the fifth report that I write on genocide, it’s the eighth report at the end of the eighth investigation that I conduct as Special Rapporteur, and I can confirm that Israel continues to invoke the right to torture Palestinians,” in prisons and through a regime of life “unsustainable, unbearable.”

Albanese also holds universities, the Israeli judiciary, and media accountable. She asks where the opposition to genocide was, who defended the freedom of expression of Israelis opposed to apartheid and war, who broke the “360-degree communication” that for over two years fueled hatred, discrimination, and dehumanization of Palestinians, even thanks to the collaboration of many politicians and media outlets, also in Italy.

For this reason, she says, those who continue to talk about “the right to self-defense,” after two and a half years of massacres in Gaza and the West Bank, if it is in good faith is poorly informed. From this, support also for the Il Fatto petition, that does not use Ben Gvir as a expendable extremist and that removes the Italian veto on the suspension of the EU-Israel agreement.

Israel, President Herzog’s indictment: “Terrible brutalization of society”

The red line of brutality has been crossed. In the West Bank, regarding the treatment of activists from the Global Flotilla Mudge. On Sunday, Israeli President Isaac Herzog delivered a very harsh speech to condemn what he called a “terrible process of brutalization” of Israeli society, particularly referring to the violence perpetrated by settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank and the treatment of prisoners in the country’s jails. Herzog’s speech accompanied the presentation of the Jerusalem Unity Prize, an award intended to promote mutual respect, unity, tolerance, and social harmony.

Herzog said that in Israel, there is “a wave of terrible violence carried out by a chaotic mob, with acts that contravene all legality, morality or Jewish norms.” He added that some parts of Israeli society not only have normalized violence but “celebrate and proudly claim it.” “We must not tolerate the brutality that comes from the margins of our society and that threatens all of us.” In his speech, Herzog made direct references to the violence of settlers in the West Bank, stating that Israeli security forces spend “the greater part of their time” managing the violence of Jewish extremists. In reality, the army often does nothing to prevent this kind of violence, aligning itself in virtually all situations with the settlers, and in many cases participating directly in attacks against Palestinians. The Netanyahu government has consistently downplayed the problem, describing it as, for example, a situation created “by groups of children,” and has supported the creation of many new settlements, considered illegal under international law.

Herzog also spoke of “humiliating and reprehensible behavior by extremists towards Christians and Muslims and their symbols.” This was interpreted as a reference to recent incidents in which Israeli soldiers destroyed crucifixes in Lebanon and an attack on a nun in Jerusalem. Another topic of the speech was the treatment of detainees. Herzog reiterated that it is “forbidden to mistreat them.” “We are witnessing barbaric acts committed by a handful of people who believe that detainees, suspects, or those under investigation have no rights.” In this case, the main recipient of the message was National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. On Wednesday, a video of him walking with hostile and contemptuous gestures towards the activists of the Global Flotilla Mudge, tied and lying face down in the port of Ashdod in Israel, provoked widespread criticism. Ben-Gvir’s ministry is also responsible for Israeli prisons, where there have been complaints of systematic abuse, deprivation, and violence, even sexual, against Palestinians. How did Ben-Gvir react? Ben-Gvir, demanding Herzog’s resignation, arguing that “anyone who defines hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens as brutes is not fit to hold the office” of president.

U.S. Department revokes sanctions against UN Special Rapporteur for Palestine Francesca Albanese

Following the district court ruling, the United States lifted sanctions against Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories. A notice published on the Department of the Treasury’s website officially confirmed the removal from the black list, with a global blockade and serious repercussions on her personal and family life. The inability to use major credit cards, for example, or to carry out any banking transactions.

This followed last week’s ruling by Judge Richard Leon of the District of Columbia, who granted a preliminary injunction against the sanctions. Leon stated that the Trump administration had likely violated Albanese’s rights guaranteed by the First Amendment when it imposed the sanctions on her in July 2022 through measures targeting her critical statements regarding Israel, deciding to suspend them temporarily.
“The protection of freedom of speech is always in the public interest,” Leon wrote in the opinion accompanying the order. Albanese has held the role of UN Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories since 2022. In her latest report, titled “From an Economy of Occupation to a Genocide Economy,” she investigated the role that the economic and financial system plays in currently supporting and profiting from Israeli policies, the systematic destruction of Gaza, and the expansion of illegal occupations of the West Bank. The document identifies companies in various sectors, from arms and technology manufacturers to banks, universities, insurance companies, and pension funds.
When announcing the sanctions against her in 2025, Secretary of State Marco Rubio described it as “blatant antisemitism.” It is often an accusation leveled against those who publicly criticize Israel’s actions. Rubio had then characterized her as a “terrorist supporter” with “open contempt for the United States, Israel, and the West.”
