Cosa resta delle quattro stelle appuntate al petto? Cenere e carbone. “Siamo gli zimbelli del calcio internazionale” dice affranto Alessandro Del Piero. Anno dopo anno scendiamo i gradini della scala del mondo, e li scendiamo così velocemente da avere abbondantemente toccato e persino superato il fondo, la misura colma della squalifica definitiva dal luogo in cui il calcio conta.
In Italia il calcio sta infatti mostrando lo stesso volto della politica: roba per vecchi, per maschi attempati che riempiono di elucubrazioni parolaie i talk serali, spettacolo del mondo analogico riservato a spettatori parimenti attempati, soprattutto maschi, casalinghi e annoiati.
Andare a vedere una partita allo stadio costa molto, le misure di sicurezza e di selezione all’ingresso sono parimenti faticose e assillanti. Il calcio costa anche se si vuole guardarlo in televisione, e costano le scuole che insegnano il calcio.
L’Italia che ha meno di quarant’anni non sa cosa sia un pallone in uno slargo di cemento, non conosce il super santos, la palla bordeaux a rettangoli neri che ha accompagnato legioni di italiani nelle sfide interminabili di una adolescenza che viveva nel calcio e col calcio.
Il declino nasce da qui, dalla dimensione sociale di questo sport che si è infragilita, ristretta, intorpidita. Non ci sono campioni in giro, non se ne vedono, e soprattutto se qualcuno sa giocare, se viene definito un fuoriclasse, è praticamente certo che non sia italiano.
Il calcio, nel tempo, è divenuto dunque misura della depressione di quel mondo che è costretto per esempio a giocarsi la Supercoppa in Arabia Saudita. Uno sport iper costoso che produce solo debiti.
Se quarant’anni fa in Italia atterrava chi era già un campione, oggi si presenta a noi una legione di sconosciuti, di calciatori senza storia, di gente che non ha modo di essere classificata. Brocchi che testimoniano ciò che è diventato questo sport: un luogo in cui i mediocri eccellono.
È l’Italia che piega mestamente verso l’irrilevanza, il senso superfluo di un gioco amato così tanto ma oggi purtroppo ridotto ad essere il luogo triste della nostra memoria.

Non ci sarà l’Italia ai Mondiali che si giocheranno la prossima estate tra Stati Uniti, Messico e Canada. Ancora una volta gli italiani guarderanno dal divano di casa i campioni in carica dell’Argentina di Messi, gli altri favoriti Spagna e Francia, i sempre fortissimi Brasile e Germania e Portogallo. E tutte le squadre rivelazione, le nazionali simpatia che a ogni occasione colorano l’immaginario e provano a dire la loro. Per la prima volta la manifestazione passera da 32 a 48 squadre, extra large.
L’altra lotteria dei rigori della serata ha sorriso invece alla Repubblica Ceca, che ha superato la Danimarca. Playoff ancora favorevoli alla Svezia che ha superato 3 a 2 la Polonia. Basta un gol alla Turchia per superare il Kosovo. 48esimo posto prenotato dall’Iraq, dopo lo spareggio intercontinentale dalla Bolivia. Prima volta dal 1986. Si qualifica invece dopo 52 anni la Repubblica Democratica del Congo: ha battuto la Giamaica 1 a 0 ai tempi supplementari a Guadalajara, in Messico. Seconda, storica qualificazione, dopo quella del 1974 quando il Paese si chiamava Zaire.
A questo punto il cartellone è completo: si giocherà dall’11 giugno al 19 luglio. Inaugurazione allo Stadio Azteca di Città del Messico, finale al MetLife Stadium di New York.

State trasformando le bollette in una tassa occulta per coprire le vostre folli spese in armi. Avete speso per la difesa nel 2025 45 miliardi e ne mettete 5 per le bollette. Non è incapacità tecnica, è una scelta politica: avete deciso di lasciare gli italiani a mani nude ad affrontare uno tsunami energetico pur di non toccare gli interessi delle lobby”, ha concluso Appendino.
