#NuclearReactor Backed by #BillGates Gets Federal Approval
#TerraPower’s project in #Wyoming, which uses novel technology, is the first new commercial reactor to receive federal approval in decade.
TerraPower design, which it calls #Natrium developed with GE Hitachi, has several novel features. Probably most notable of these is the use of liquid #sodium for cooling and heat transfer.
Plant won’t be done until 2030 at the earliest, and it still needs an operating license.

Sodium-ion batteries are getting ready for prime time. How can they improve EVs?

With potential safety improvements and lower manufacturing costs, Na-ion batteries are coming of age at precisely the right time.

it's interesting to see the first #sodium ion batteries show up on alie, they're still more expensive than lifepo4 right now, but they already have the advantage of working in low temperatures like -40C without any differences, having a decently high discharge rate (5S pulse and 20C continuous), and being intrinsically more stable and safe than anything with lithium .. tempted to get some and do some torture testing to see if they catch on fire or whatever if you stab them like with #lithium 🤔

‘Blood cobalt’ is disappearing from batteries – and cheaper, cleaner batteries are arriving

Big batteries used in electric vehicles and grid storage have long relied on metals with tarnished supply chains. But this is changing.
