You can always know if an architect/interior designer actually thought about wheelchair accessibility or if they were just following legal constraints depending on at which height they put the hanging space, if a wheelchair can actually fit under the desk and if the windows have long enough handles that you can actually reach them...

I’ve been on a bit of a journey into mobility aids this past 6 months or so after a small personal windfall and being granted PIP.
I bought Rhonda the rollator a couple of months ago and she’s helped a lot but I’d also been looking for a chair.
It’s not the easiest thing to find a mobility aid even if you don’t have varying needs and are also A Fat.
I wasn’t even sure what I was looking for.
Something that would fit me and also fit into our car seemed impossible or at least horrifically expensive.
But I think I’ve found a power chair that ticks all the boxes. It supports my weight, has multiple battery options and folds down. It’s not cheap (£1k) but it’s just about within my budget if I do it sensibly.
Now all I need to do is convince my brain I’m not being monumentally dramatic and lazy.

Hey. Help us pay for my new wheelchair? I'm desperately hoping the issues with my current chair are that it's old and battered and possibly needs more in repairs than would be worth it (it's better than NOT having one, don't get me wrong...). But $1,100 (rounded slightly up) is a dear price even if cheaper than we'd ever get anything custom.

hi everyone! we have a new #MutualAid #MutualAidNeeded #MutualAidRequest #MastodonForHarris #Mastodon4Harris #HelpFolksLive #HelpFolksLive2025. we just replaced @[email protected]'s power wheelchair with a new one that'll be here Saturday, for the fun sum of $1093.95 on a credit card, with monthly payments of just under $100. y'all, we bought this on faith and a prayer (and a reserve that will help but can't wholly cover the payments and help us not be crushed by poverty at the same time) because their old power wheelchair is unsafe now. it can't be driven across a curb cut without them ending up in the street, much more severely than my chair does. the motors struggle a good bit of the time. part of them having independence is the power wheelchair, so I'm asking to help us with the price of agency and independence as disabled individuals. as y'all probably know, we're both disabled and neither of us work, and we mostly survive off of the good will and kindness of our close friends and random strangers. February bill: $0/100; anything over goal will be paid to the credit card above and beyond the required payment to help pay it off sooner than the 12 months. put wheelchair in the comments. 1. Metro. Elevator usually works (smelly though), everything's mostly accessible independently. Even step-in, lot of space in the carriage
2. Tram. Mostly accessible independently but less space in the carriage and sometimes the platforms are the wrong height
3. Bus. Little space in the carriage and not independent: needs driver to pull out entry temp.
4. Train. Horrible wreck. The worst
