Went to a stage show at a lovely outdoor #theater last night. It just reopened after major renovations, and they've done an amazing job of improving the #accessibility to it, including having some front-row #wheelchair spots, rather than being stuck at the back or way to the sides.

I'd bought tix in advance for Mom to go, and I'm sorry she never got to see (or enjoy) it.

Woot! Finally after a mostly painful 5 weeks, I remember we saved my son’s old wheelchair in the garage. Since I’m still wearing that giant, clunky, dreadful boot for at least a few more weeks for the broken toe issue, I’m trying out using the chair a few times a day. #Wheelchair

It’s very awkward since it’s hard to get in and out of the chair because the foot rest is in the way. Also learned I have to set both locks when trying to stand from sitting. Learned how painful to pinch your fingers pinned against the wall as you failed to gauge the route and angle as you turn a narrow corner. And I’m reminded again just how essential doors need to be 32” or wider including clear opening width.

I still have to limit trips around the house because standing from sitting puts a lot of pressure on my hurt foot. But at least for the first time in weeks I can get to the fridge to get myself something to eat. I’m losing weight because I can’t move around well enough to do most cooking—too much moving around getting cookware in/out and ingredients. (Son helps but only occasionally, so I’ve eaten a lot of pretzels and cookies.) gripe gripe gripe, right?

The "Pieterpad" is the most well-known long distance trail of the Netherlands. The trail runs for approx. 500 km's from Pieterburen in the north to St. Pietersberg in the south.

Today it was announced they opened a wheelchair variant as well:

"As of today, the Pieterpad has an official wheelchair-accessible route covering over 500 kilometres. This means that the Netherlands’ best-known long-distance walking trail (LAW) is now also accessible to walkers using all-terrain mobility aids such as off-road wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walking frames and pushchairs."

Lokjo has a new setting especially for wheelchair users.

It's in the Quick menu, blue round button.

When searching categories (shops, cafes, theatres etc) it shows a color code, if you can enter, difficult, not, or unknown.

I hope it'll help users to go out in the city with more comfort. They deserve it.

Boost far and widely please. 😊

Learning to live with a wheelchair is about realizing that bodies take space. Physically, accessibility, independence.

And learning to live with ME/CFS is a lot about realizing that bodies can also take time. Recovery, fatigue, pain.

I've been useless about promoting my friend's fundraiser because of my own health crises but am going to try to yell about it a lot until the end of May to try to get her the wheelchair she so desperately needs.

If you can donate, please do. If you can't, please boost and share on any other platforms you might be on: https://gofund.me/916b70c67

We're trying to hit the fundraising goal of £4.8k for my friend to get a wheelchair that doesn't keep re-fucking her back every time she uses it and also means she can go more than a few metres down the road without her battery dying.

Share everywhere you can please: https://gofund.me/916b70c67
