Oha.

Landmark UN Report: Meat & Dairy Alternatives Can Significantly Cut Greenhouse Gas Emissions

In a landmark report during the COP28 summit in Dubai, the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP) has openly endorsed alternative proteins – spanning plant-based, cultivated and fermented – as a way to significantly cut emissions, deforestation, water and

Nearly a million misinformation posts about #AlternativeProteins and #vegan diets are spreading on social media, according to a new report from #ChangingMarkets.

In the detailed report, it was found that:

-Of 285 million social media posts analysed, 948,000 contain #misinformation 🤥
-Most of it was from #twitter
-The posts sowed doubt about the benefits of #PlantBased food and helped to greenwash and “health-wash” meat and dairy products 🧼🥓
-Some of the posts were traced to animal meat and dairy interests 🥩🏭
-22 percent of posts analyzed promoted animal products as healthy and environmentally friendly
-The majority of the misinformation posts (78 percent) pushed “narratives that disparage” vegan diets and plant-based alternatives to animal products
-Almost half the disparaging posts linked dietary change to #ConspiracyTheories claiming that #ClimateAction and dietary change are part of a plan by the “global elite” to “weaken humanity and maintain control.” 🙃⚠️

Plans to present meat as ‘sustainable #nutrition’ at #Cop28 revealed
Documents show industry intends to go ‘full force’ in arguing meat is beneficial to the environment at climate summit.
#Animalagriculture is the largest emitter of #methane, a #greenhouse gas 80 times more potent than #carbon dioxide when measured over a 20-year period. Scientists said that unless swift action is taken, #methane from #agriculture alone will push the world beyond a 1.5C (2.7F) rise in temperature above preindustrial levels that risks tipping the world into irreversible #climate breakdown.

The Guardian

A recent study from a Dutch team at #LeidenUniversity calculated 18 billion farmed animals die every year - discarded simply as waste.

This unfathomable number of individuals include:

-16.8 billion male chicks 🐣🚫
-402.3 million turkeys 🦃❌
-298.8 million pigs 🐷❎
-195.7 million sheep 🐑✖️
-188 million goats 🐐🙅
-74.1 million cattle 🐮🙅‍♂️

1/6th of all animal meat produced is thrown in the trash. This shocking statistic shows the unnecessary waste of animal life, worsens our fight against #ClimateChange, and does nothing to prevent the continual suffering of animals that are still trapped in the animal agricultural industry, awaiting their untimely fate.

18 billion animals a year: they die, but never end up on our plate

Each year a staggering 18 billion chickens, turkeys, pigs, sheep, goats, and cows either die or are killed without making it onto someone's plate. Environmental scientists Juliane Klaura, Laura Scherer, and Gerard Breeman were the first to calculate this number on a global scale. 'Reducing these numbers…
