I want @EUCommission & @BMWK to #ban #AntiRepairDesign as pioneered and rolled out by #Apple and copied by a lot of others!

What really pisses me off is that everyone thinks @frameworkcomputer and #Fairphone are glorious, when in fact even #Framework13 & #Fairphone4 / #Fairphone5 are objectively #Downgrade|s compared to what I'm currently using: [ #ThinkPad #X230Tablet & #Fairphone3plus ]

I do like however that #ColdFusionTV's Host, #DagogoAltraide released the full interview and not just cut out some small bits as liked, leaving the rest unused...

  • Shows consideration for everyone's time and effort...
Why Companies Make It Hard To Repair Your Devices ft. Louis Rossmann

@kkarhan
Wait, actually?
I didn't really look into it as I don't have the money for a new laptop anyway, but I took it for granted that they would just let you unclip the battery like in every laptop from the great era. That's like the first thing I would ensure when designing a modular laptop, since that's the first thing to become unreliable.
@frameworkcomputer

@ustralien Sadly no, and that's my big disappointment!

@frameworkcomputer decided to choose the #Apple-esque "flat cells below #trackpad" design in the unreasonable #THINN-ness race instead of doing what even the #EeePC and #Sony's #Vaio #P11Z did and have a slot at the back to chug in batteries!

  • I know why they did it, as a closed aluminium pan aka. "#lunchbox" design is easier to fabricate, but I'd rather some #ToolfreeSwappableBattery which are IMHO of more practicality than having the ability to swap out every port.

Not that I don't like those #modules, but I'd rather wish for a "#THICC-er" device if that gets me essentials like #Ethernet, #USB-A & -C as well as a #TRRS #HeadphoneJack / #HeadsetJack.

That being said the #Framework is still by a long margin the "least #enshittified" device on the market, and same goes for the #Fairphone devices...

Not to mention they don't have an #UltraNav-Style #Trackpoint and I do use that instead of a Trackpad.

ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II - Tutorial

@ustralien Granted, @frameworkcomputer makes it super easy to #replace as they use one single #Torx bit and document their stuff and actually sell you the parts unlike #Apple...

  • I just think that it's still a #Downgrade compared to my #X230Tablet in that regard in that I can toolfree swap batteries in 5 seconds without preparing for it.

They could've done it like #Lenovo did with some #ThinkPads and include a smaller internal battery so people don't have to shut-down to swap, or like #ToughBooks and even some old #PowerBooks just have more than one slot for a #battery to get chugged in.

  • Still I think they could've done better and just build cheaper, abeit thiccer but longer lasting #BatteryPacks with #COTS parts like 18650 or 21700 cells...

Cuz the #DRM on Lenovo's devices prevent 3rd parties from building some once Lenovo decides to not give a shit anymore...

Framework Laptop Teardown: 10/10, But is it Perfect?

YouTube

@ustralien So yeah I am sad that @frameworkcomputer didn't work out a deal with like #Sprintek to get a #Trackpoint into the #FrameworkLaptop and I'm pissed that #Lenovo discontinued their #ThinkPad #TrackPoint Keyboard for a new and #enshittified version that cost double the price of the #Bluetooth and triple the #wired version before and is #WirelessOnly aka. can't even be used via #USB without a shitty #dongle, making it basically impossible for me to use.

Needless to say I'd still see #Framework & #Fairphone as the only options on the market right now if I had to buy stuff that is available right now!

@ustralien And nowadays I've to snipe for #NewOldStock #Trackpoint #Keyboards like that but it's just not #sustainable to buy them off #scalpers like #Ersazza who charge >1000% of the original price down the road...
I love classic ThinkPad Keyboards so much, I got another one! (Lenovo ThinkPad Travel Keyboard)
