@ustralien Sadly no, and that's my big disappointment!

@frameworkcomputer decided to choose the #Apple-esque "flat cells below #trackpad" design in the unreasonable #THINN-ness race instead of doing what even the #EeePC and #Sony's #Vaio #P11Z did and have a slot at the back to chug in batteries!

  • I know why they did it, as a closed aluminium pan aka. "#lunchbox" design is easier to fabricate, but I'd rather some #ToolfreeSwappableBattery which are IMHO of more practicality than having the ability to swap out every port.

Not that I don't like those #modules, but I'd rather wish for a "#THICC-er" device if that gets me essentials like #Ethernet, #USB-A & -C as well as a #TRRS #HeadphoneJack / #HeadsetJack.

That being said the #Framework is still by a long margin the "least #enshittified" device on the market, and same goes for the #Fairphone devices...

Not to mention they don't have an #UltraNav-Style #Trackpoint and I do use that instead of a Trackpad.

@Natanox @wyatt8740 @ChrSt @tauon @ika I am aware of @libreleah 's products and I do take a look regularly.

However it becomes clear to me that my workflows did outgrow even the i7-3570M and that I've to find something newer that isn't a #downgrade to me.

As much as @frameworkcomputer undo a lot of #Enshittification that #Lenovo introduced (given a lot of if not disgruntled, but at least dissatisfied Lenovo engineers started it, that's no wounder), they sadly didn't offer a #trackpoint or #ToolfreeSwappableBatteries.

And no, #THINN-ness isn't an argument when the #Vaio #P11Z was able to do that in 2008 and that thing was #PeakEngineering in terms of "How tiny can we make an #i586-compatible laptop?" and Sony emgineers just said "yes!" in return...

@rory Yeah, I get what you mean, with THICC Distros like @ubuntu having dropped #i686 support half a decade ago...

I do however think that #thinn and #minimalist #Linux isn't just possible (see #TinyCore) but also could be made to work from a single 1440kB 3,5" FDD...

And I do work on that - see @OS1337 ...

And yes, I do want it to be a #KISS-principled #embedded & #desktop (#CLI) #distro that works on anything from an #i486-SX and up with 16MB RAM...

@damngoodtech In the end it's a consumer's choice.

People need to be #TechLiterate enough to value #repairability (and #upgradeability) over making tue thinnest devices possible.

Now granted, both @frameworkcomputer amd @Fairphone did manage to design #thinn yet repairable devices, proving that all the #AntiRepair-Arguments are corporate propaganda lies!

Personally I'd accept even #thicc'er devices if that means they'd use more #COTS and less #custom parts...
