@stuartl #Toughbooks are great.

It's sad that #Panasonic doesn't sell them to #consumers and that they axed the #CF19 after the Mk7 revision!

@ustralien Granted, @frameworkcomputer makes it super easy to #replace as they use one single #Torx bit and document their stuff and actually sell you the parts unlike #Apple...

  • I just think that it's still a #Downgrade compared to my #X230Tablet in that regard in that I can toolfree swap batteries in 5 seconds without preparing for it.

They could've done it like #Lenovo did with some #ThinkPads and include a smaller internal battery so people don't have to shut-down to swap, or like #ToughBooks and even some old #PowerBooks just have more than one slot for a #battery to get chugged in.

  • Still I think they could've done better and just build cheaper, abeit thiccer but longer lasting #BatteryPacks with #COTS parts like 18650 or 21700 cells...

Cuz the #DRM on Lenovo's devices prevent 3rd parties from building some once Lenovo decides to not give a shit anymore...

Got these two #Toughbooks. One has #WindowsXP (but there's a password on it). The other has #Windows2000, but hangs at the splash screen. Want to install #Linux Lite (only OS that's still 32 bit I could find), but laptop doesn't recognize the USB stick and I can't change the boot order in the BIOS.
@alper @ai6yr Thank you! RMS seems fine under Parallels. But I will retest and retest VARA too. I wonder if the GalaxyBook can run Manjaro… So many flavors of #toughbooks, prices all over the place. Will look at the #fzg1 and the #CF29 that Ben refers to. Want something new enough to not have support issues (as in ham apps, not necessarily OS 😉)
