The RGB LEDs have been tested — everything is OK. This time I used OPSCO Optoelectronics SK6812MINI-E, and I can say they were much easier to solder than the ones I previously bought on AliExpress. However, I don’t know the manufacturer of the ones I used before.

I've been happily using a Moonlander for a while now, with a Voyager sitting in my closet. I bought the former because I couldn't quite make the latter work for me; I struggled to put together a layout that I was happy with.

But the Moonlander has more keys than I'd ever practically make us of. So I dusted off the Voyager and decided to give it another try. And I think I've found a solution to the layout problem I was facing before! It's not perfect, and I'll probably continue iterating on it, but I'm glad I was able to solve the initial problem that made me seek out a replacement keyboard.

tl;dr I wish the Voyager had three keys on the thumb clusters instead of two. 😅

Both sides are wired now. I’ll cut and fit the gasket mount next, and it’s all about firmware after that

A keen observer might notice that there’s only one pair of keyboards and tl;td is that wiring this version was a miserable experience and I don’t want to release it like that. I’ll verify that the electronics work and then redesign the wiring to a FPC #keyboard #keyboards #electronics

Meine schönsten Proberaumerlebnisse, Eintrag vom 18.03.26:

Beim Einschalten meldet der Haupt-, weil einzige Klangerzeuger: "The internal memory has been corrupted, likely due to an interruption of power while the system was writing / saving data. This has been repaired and the affected Bank has been initialized."

Mit "the affected Bank" ist hierbei gemeint: Alle Bänke. Klanglich also in Sekunden from hero to zero, überall steht als Programmname nur noch "InitCombi". Da kann einem schon mal spontan etwas warm werden. 🙂

Wohl dem, der auf einem nach hektischer Sucherei in der Keyboardtasche tatsächlich gefundenen USB-Stick eine noch nicht zu alte Sicherung der Klangprogramme hat …
