Was Harry Potter a huge part of my childhood? Well, when the seventh book came out, I read it on the day, in one go.

So yes, it was a huge part of my childhood. But my childhood is wayyy over. The seventh book came out in 2007! The last film was released in 2011, when I was in my late teens.

Harry Potter was in my childhood. My childhood is in the past. The past is not the present. To me, I grew out of it after I watched the last film. There’s nothing more to the series than that. I grew out of it in the same way that I grew out of wearing baggy jeans and chequered jackets.

It can be difficult to separate art from the artist, when the art was a pivotal part of your childhood. Incredibly so. However, in her own words, she said she would use any royalties she gets from her works to fund anti-transgender groups. By participating in enjoying it as an adult, you are placing your own memories of childhood above the harm she does to the childhood of those in the present.

These children deserve better than that. No amount of any nostalgia is worth enabling that.
