Researchers uncover natural variation in wild emmer wheat for broad-spectrum disease resistance

Bread wheat is one of the most important staple crops for millions of people and is apparently the largest cultivated and traded cereal worldwide. Bread wheat is a hexaploid species with three subgenomes (2n = 6x = 42, AABBDD) that has undergone two separate allopolyploidization and domestication events.

"..motifs crucial for co-receptor interaction in LRR-RLPs are closely related to those of the LRR-receptor-like kinase (RLK) subgroup Xb..Functional characterisation further reveals that LRR-RLPs initiate immune responses through their juxtamembrane and #transmembrane regions, while LRR-RLK-Xb members regulate development through their cytosolic kinase domains. Our data suggest that the cell-surface receptors involved in #immunity and #development share a common origin."

Evolutionary trajectory of pattern recognition receptors in plants - Nature Communications

Plant cell-surface receptors perceive both self- and nonself-molecules to regulate biological processes. Here the authors show that a subclass of phytohormone and immune receptors share a common origin, which have diverged to perceive distinct ligands and activate differential downstream responses.

Low-pH-dependent RNA binding and oligomerization of SID-1 transmembrane family proteins: Implications for RNA transport

In C. elegans, the protein SID1 plays a crucial role in the systemic RNA interference process by facilitating the transport of exogenous double-stranded RNA into the cytoplasm. Previously, Chen-Yu Zhang's group has already demonstrated that intact plant miRNA found in dietary sources can be absorbed through the mammalian digestive system and mediate cross-kingdom gene regulation.

PC-1 in matrix mineralization by MC3T3 cells.

They explain that PC-1 is a class II homodimeric #transmembrane protein, which means it is made up of two identical parts that are embedded in the #cell membrane. They then explain that when PC-1 is increased in the cells, it is enriched in something called MVs (which are small vesicles that come from the #plasma #membrane).

Internally, adenosine is transformed into inosine and S-(5′-Adenosyl)-L-homocysteine (AdoHcy) by adenosine deaminase (ADA) and S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine hydrolase (SAHH) respectively. Additionally, adenosine #kinase helps to maintain the concentration of adenine #nucleosides/#nucleotides by converting adenosine into adenosine monophosphate. Finally, during cellular injury or hypoxia/#ischemia, adenosine is formed from #ATP and is transported inside the #cell using #transmembrane proteins.

Hello! As I’m new both to #Mastodon and to the #QOTO instance, I’d like to make my #introductions here.

I’m Dom, a postgraduate researcher studying #CondensedMatter, in particular #SoftMatter, #ActiveMatter, #MolecularBiology, #CellBiology, #PhaseTransitions, and #ComplexSystems using the tools of #TheoreticalPhysics, #BioPhysics, #StatisticalPhysics, #FluidDynamics, #ComputationalPhysics, and #Simulation.

I’m working on a few projects at the moment. One addresses #universality in active #turbulence with #spectral techniques. Another predicts a new microphase separation regime in inhomogeneous active #nematics by simulating the coupled #CahnHilliard, #NavierStokes, and #BerisEdwards equations. In another project I’m developing a #FieldTheory of the #orderphobic effect, a nonspecific interaction between #transmembrane bodies anchored in a #lipid #bilayer.
