We got the new trellis materials in place today. We're using a jute netting with 6 inch square openings tied to the old metal frame with garden twine. Now we'll be ready to plant the beans when the soil warms up some more. BeetBear says "Don't talk to me about jute netting ever again..."

The old plastic netting on the bean trellis has finally gotten too damaged to be of use anymore so we are making plans to replace the netting this year. Got about 7 or 8 years out of the old netting.

Trenches give Runner/Pole beans their roots space & access to nutrients, as they are notoriously hungry! Fill a trench in the off season with veg peelings, manure & cover with soil. By spring, it'll be a nutrient-rich bed for your beans. #gardening #runnerbeans #growyourown #planning #allotment

Excess runner beans? Don’t worry, use them!

1️⃣ Blanch & Freeze: Slice, blanch for 2 mins, then freeze. Perfect for winter stews & curries.
2️⃣ Make Chutney: A classic way to preserve them. Goes great with cheese!
3️⃣ Pickle them: Create a tangy, spicy pickle to enjoy for months.
