The Okra is under attack. This is the second seedling to get chopped off in the last two days. I forgot how susceptible the small Okra seedlings are to cutworm attack. I believe this is the black cutworm, Agrotis ipsilon, but there are other cutworms in the family and I'm not an expert. I'll poke around for more of them and treat the remaining seedlings with some Bt.

Bonus points for the person at the allotment who covers their water buckets so that mosquitoes don't leave eggs. #mosquitoes #allotment
Yesterday I found a squash vine borer (Eichlinia cucurbitae) egg on one of my zucchini. I highly recommend examining stems, leaves, and flower stalks several times per week so they can be removed before the larvae emerge. Swarthmore, PA, USA. Ok, it's two weeks since we set the corn seed for the second succession of sweetcorn, so it's time to get it planted out. This time we're covering the planting with our wire fencing tunnels to help keep the foxes from trampling the seedlings. First planting is looking ok, but somewhat ragged from dancing foxes every night. I don't have video of it happening, but the footprints tell the story.

Hours of weeding, investment in netting etc. But I grew these #strawberries. Very hard to find in the shops this time of year so all the effort and cost well worth while I think. @allotments #allotment
Did I get overexcited this morning and harvest from the #allotment too soon? Well the beetroot looked crowded so why not and except for one accident managed to just patiently pick the ripe redcurrants to leave the bush's energy to work on the others 😋
Here come the berries! Looks like a good crop coming in a few weeks. Fingers crossed they don't all get fried like they did last year. Picture of last year's debacle included for reference.
