The first flower bud on my home-grown oleander (*Nerium oleander*)! 🌸
This plant was grown from seed — so seeing that first vivid pink bud emerge feels like a real milestone. Oleander is a classic Mediterranean shrub, known for its showy flowers and tough constitution. It can bloom in shades of white, pink, red or yellow, and this one is clearly going for something bold.
A reminder that growing plants from seed takes patience, but moments like this make it all worthwhile.

All the cucumbers, melons, squash, and 1 runner bean are up. I thinned everything to 2. When the first cucumber sprouted I looked at the bottom of the pot by chance and noticed there was already a root poking out! The hibiscus has another flower ready to open, the other fell off the same day I noticed it so I guess I missed it for a day or two.

Planted a Cherry Sweetie and Campari tomato in the ground and finished off the row with Kentucky Blue pole beans in very small cloches that are just woodlice protectors. The garlic and beets are looking good too but the beets need some more thinning it looks like.

It was 49F / 9.4C low last night near the garden and forecast to be the same or warmer tonight so I set a couple of trays of tomatoes out to make some room indoors. They're setting in the newest raised bed that I just filled up with dirt from a hole I'm digging and some chicken compost. The bed will probably get 2 eggplants, maybe a tomatillo, and some basil. I'm only planting 10 of these tomato plants.

Planted out the rest of the bok choy so I can officially have way too many bok choy plants, unless 18 isn't too many. This bed will get melons planted in it eventually. The center is being left to the fireweed growing in it and some marigolds that have sprouted and were put in there.

I moistened and removed the skins of the seeds on everything that was up today. 7 pots of plums growing. I was worried the dry tops would shrink wrap them. In the wild they'd be coming out of the pit which I assume would be stuck to skin part. Much easier than doing this with pepper seedlings.

A couple of the plum pots are showing some green and a lot of them are showing signs of pushing the soil up.

I was a bit worried about the Campari tomatoes after I potted them up since I was using a new bag of potting mix that was different brand. Some of them were not looking good but they all started growing and some are looking pretty good. There's always the chance the potting mix has some tomato killing thing or disease in it but I think it's ok. The eggplants are looking good, and I saw a plum starting to push up.
