Lichen can be difficult to identify visually, but since this has round stalks and grows on the ground I'm going with Cladonia rangiformis 🦌

#Today 29

Good day!

Yay, I’ve now lost 10-pounds, which officially makes me what it says on my driver’s license, which was my actual weight when I last renewed in 2021.

The snake around my middle is obviously not a boa or I’d look even thinner. 🐍

Be everwell.

Montaña de la Atalaya (#SOTA EA8/TF-013) has a short, steep and sandy walk up to the activation zone. The views of Tenerife Norte - Ciudad de La Laguna Airport and the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna are worth the ascend to the otherwise rather unimpressive summit. Just a quick one with eight QSOs in eight minutes. #HamRadio #SummitsOnTheAir #Amateurfunk #qrp #qcxmini #morsecode #hiking #mountains #tenerife #canarias

@DK3IP I want details!

* What's the "tripod" in the picture?
* Do you use a tuner?
* Is the antenna wire end grounded, open, terminated… or is it a loop with a return line laying on the ground?
* Is the antenna directional?
* Is there a counterpoise?
* How do you mount the pole? Hammer that white thing into the ground? How do you get it out?
* Do I see a brace on the pole?
* Is your seating pad inflatable?

Hams probably know all that stuff, but I'm a regular radio/electronics guy 😉.

@ericphelps Here you are:
• The “tripod” is a duopod made of two hiking poles tied together with a piece of type II paracord attached to the end of the antenna wire.
• Yes, there is a small impedance matching unit at the end of the wire.
• The antenna wire is open and tied about 1 m above ground to a bush.
• In this “inverted v” configuration the antenna is more or less omnidirectional.
• A small counterpoise is at the matching unit.
@ericphelps • I mostly use velcro strips to attach the pole to a structure, but I also have paracord and tent pegs to make a ground mount.
• The antenna wire is attached to the top section of the pole with a Prusik hitch, that’s why it bends a little (or more).
• The seat pad is a Therm-A-Rest Z Seat, non-inflatable. This (and the pole) were always the game changers for me. I never leave without them while hiking and activating.
