I don’t share from Book-2 nearly enough. Not sure why. For instance, this is from Glistenelle’s first POV when she encounters Mister Tarn in the barn…

She slammed her gift closed and employed every insufficient trick known to resist the man. Placing the sun that dwelt within him behind a closed door did no good. Its light curled around the edges.

Good day!

I’d look for signs of spring, but there’s no need. I’m carrying them around in my head.

The variable, roller coaster weather of spring drives my sinuses crazy some days.

Trees are starting to bud, though. The woody brush is leafing. At least the wind died.

favorite scene

Impossible to choose out of 3 published books, 10 unpublished, plus 2 anthologies, and often they’re spoilers.

Instead, I'll choose a random one I’m proud of.

A friendship is born in Book-2 in Meldenphire between Riparia and Gliss (Gliss POV). There’d been almost moments before this, but this is when it begins.

The female friendship I never intended, but became a series’ cornerstone, is dear to me.

The midpoint, too often ignored. The hinge, the point when everything changes and there’s no going back.

When it’s the middle of a series there’s a middle of the middle.

Any novel having to carry that load better pack a lot of muscle, that was my attitude about Book-4. My attitude going in was, what’s the worst that could happen across the board?

That’s exactly what I did.

Good day!

A windy day is expected. “Breezy” is the term we’d have used when I lived in Wyoming.

Even so, there’s always the possibility that a fallen tree branch could cut off my power.

Please don’t do that when I have a blog post to draft and a chapter to edit.

romance

First and foremost, romance flows from the characters, not the plot. Shoving two people together isn’t enough.

The original female half of my Kovenlore leads was someone else. They didn’t work. So, I replaced her after drafting Book-4, then rewrote the preceding books. Instant sparks!

Sex (which I don’t show) isn’t romance. They should be a fit, but also challenge one another. Their pasts and secrets create tension and conflict.

metaphors

In reading this excerpt, I realize it’s a metaphor for Tryn’s life. Rejected at a young age, she fears accepting acceptance, hiding from those who care.

~To reach safety required the memorized path around the holes and rotten boards lurking in the darkened corridor. The lone habitable room, her room, neared. The stained mattress smelled of urine at one end, but it was home.~

On a side note, she doesn’t reach that room.

That moment when solutions coalesce before your eyes…

It tastes and smells like elation.

I finished reviewing Inverted Reversal (a backstory novella). I’d remove about 50% of the adverbs.

More important, the issues with Book-7 are filling in at a tremendous rate and that novella is largely responsible. I can’t convey how thrilled I am, and anxious to work on it this summer.

Good day!

We seem to be passing the thresholds that qualify as spring. The temperature. The passing of snow. Of course, bunnies and chocolate.

It’s a strange thing that humans do, creating measures of time, which includes calendars and clocks in the first place.

metaphors

I do love a good metaphor, but I also try to not overuse them. I’ve read books that move from one metaphor to the next until the pacing is at a crawl.

That said, I’ve noticed that how often I use metaphors seems to depend on who the POV character is, which makes sense. It also depends on the scene.

A POV character under tremendous stress running for their life isn’t likely to use a lot of them. So,“it depends.”
