hambitiousAugust 31, 2013: A few miles out of Duncannon, the rocks ended. I didn't enjoy it as much as I might have, though, since it was so hot and humid.
The Cumberland Valley was long and flat. Kinda boring. But at least no rocks. At the ATC office in Boiling Springs, I found some instant mashed potatoes in the hiker box. The day trippers were slightly disgusted when I just poured some (cold) water into the pouch and started eating them. I thought it was a good dinner.
A bunch of hikers at the shelter, so it must be the weekend. Hopefully the brewing storm cools everything off for tomorrow.

August 26, 1983, 42 years + 1 week ago today: The haze remained dense, and clouds were slowly but steadily on the increase all day. As I began the final ascent of Mount Killington, I had already accepted the fact that dazzling panoramas were not in the cards this afternoon. The Appalachian Trail does not actually traverse Killingtonβs summit. The final quarter-mile is on a steep, rocky side trail.
