This is an incredibly important moment for the people, history, culture, rights, and government of Victoria. It's worth some deep thought in the context of other countries around the world where Indigenous People and colonisers have made a Treaty. In that regard, it's been noted by the United Nations. It's big news globally; don't let anyone downplay its significance.

Treaty, as I see it, is about showing commitment, good faith, cooperation, progress, peace, a shared destiny, and a willingness to acknowledge the inequality and wars and genocide and the hurt caused. On the other hand, I think we should be profoundly worried by anyone (such as the LNP) who says they intend to undo this great work because they're admitting they are so morally and emotionally and intellectually weak that if they have the opportunity they'll tear-up the Treaty and revert us all to the bad old days. They're not saying it might happen by accident; they're stating it as a political goal they're working toward. We should see it for what it is: a terrifying warning. I hope that aspect of the past stays in the past, and I welcome with optimism the shared vision of Treaty and Truth-telling.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
