While culture wars are incited & weaponised for partisan advantage we cannot begin to change direction.

The question becomes: how do we circumvent this kind of grubby politics?

Foregrounding the perspectives of oppressed groups is necessary in order for people who are blind to their privilege to learn that what life is like for them, is not so for everyone.

For able bodied white cis het-passing folks, this is a long journey.

For a society, the process is slow. It is open to weaponisation by those who want to retain the status quo.

The strategy? Blame on a chosen ‘other’ group the harms that come from exploitation, increasing inequality & environmental destruction. As the tools that enable misinformation become increasingly effective it is harder & harder not to be sucked into polarisation & hate.

The means of our liberation - learning to see through the eyes of others - are weaponised against us.

But …… people are not our enemy. Ignorance is.

‘Breaking people into identity groups and having them fight each other has always played into the hands of the powerful because it undermines the more material bonds of class that unite us’.

Let’s not comply.
