the #AustraliaInstitute has launched a petition;
they say “Environment Minister Murray Watt is working on a deal to rewrite our federal environment laws. This is necessary, because everyone agrees our existing laws are failing.
But instead of working with the Greens and independents to strengthen them, Labor is seeking a deal with the Coalition. It means Australia’s new environment laws will need the support of climate sceptics like Matt Canavan, who recently called for renewable projects to be replaced by new coal plants.
What we need is strong environment laws that actually bring an end to new coal and gas projects.
Add your name to demand strong environment laws that can stop new coal and gas now!

“To the Hon. Murray Watt MP, Minister for the Environment --
The Australian public voted for a climate majority at the last election, and we want strong environment laws that can stop new coal and gas.
Every new coal and gas mine damages nature. We urge you to strengthen – not weaken – Australia's environment laws.

New national environmental standards ?
"ACF warns weak nature laws risk repeating decades of destruction. As it stands, this draft bill has too many loopholes that benefit big polluters and bulldozers. This is the biggest nature law reform in a generation, and Parliament has to get it right.”
" ACF is calling on the government to ensure the reforms:
Close loopholes that allow deforestation and habitat destruction to continue .
Establish an independent regulator to enforce the rules without political interference .
Set clear national standards to protect and restore nature, and
Require decision-makers to consider climate harm in every decision. "

Es "sterben jährlich rund 2,5 Millionen Menschen durch die Luftverschmutzung, die direkt auf die Verbrennung fossiler Energieträger zurückzuführen ist. South Africa's coal mines are leaking methane, and no one knows how much https://phys.org/news/2025-10-south-africa-coal-leaking-methane.html

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas. It is released from natural sources (like wetlands) and human activities (coal mining, and oil and gas production). It is also emitted by agriculture (especially livestock and rice paddies), and decomposing waste in garbage dumps.

Hurricanes Should Be Named After Fossil Fuel Executives, Climate Activist Says
Jamaica remains in a state of emergency after being battered by one of the strongest Atlantic cyclones in history.Mikaela Loach, a Jamaican British climate justice activist, says the hurricane was “caused by the climate crisis,” and says fossil fuel companies are to blame. It’s important to “direct that anger towards people who are responsible,” Loach says, suggesting that hurricanes be named after oil executives.

Jamaica remains in a state of emergency after being battered by Hurricane Melissa, one of the strongest Atlantic cyclones in history. The Category 5 storm slammed into Jamaica on Tuesday with 185-mile-per-hour winds, and the extent of the damage is not yet known because communication remains limited. Mikaela Loach, a Jamaican British climate justice activist, says the hurricane was “caused by the climate crisis,” and says fossil fuel companies are to blame. It’s important to “direct that anger towards people who are responsible,” Loach says, suggesting that hurricanes be named after oil executives.
