"If we truly believed in the #intelligence of the living world, how might we live differently? What would it mean to build, farm and move across the planet with #kinship, not conquest, as our organizing principle? What would a different world – one that works with #nature, and not against it – look like?" The last frontier of empathy: why we still struggle to see ourselves as animals

Champions of exceptionalism say humans hold a unique moral status. Yet there’s only one species recklessly destroying the planet it needs to survive

wasn't able to find a title. This is another favorite artist, maybe haven't put up any of these yet. Love the way his cultural heritage is strongly present but he didn't simply copy traditional designs, he took it his own way. The bright, vibrant colors really work ✨

“The animism I’m interested in is one that isn’t rule-based, that doesn’t become systematized, that’s patchy and heterogeneous, that shifts according to needs. One that wouldn’t have ritual, that wouldn’t be attached to class, would be always feral, anarchic, and ever-changing.”

Sophie Strand and Scientific Animism Interview: "Give me the magic beans. Spit in my eyes. Lay hands on me."

"An animism that isn't rule-based, never systematized, that's patchy and heterogeneous, that shifts according to needs. Without ritual, without class markers. Always feral, anarchic, ever-changing."

@futurebird I think that #techbros are just little boys longing to talk to their teddy bear. #Animism is something deep in our minds. What irritates me: these guys have no problem to talk to trash but could never talk to a tree or see an intelligent animal as a person. And this crashing with #nature makes me feel deeply unwell.

“I try to remain a staunch materialist, something like an open-minded atheist, but when my seven-year-old asks, ‘Is God real, Dad?’ I never know what to say. How do you tell them no when you’ve met God, in the flesh, in a field outside Abingdon?”

Atlantic Magic - Fuzzy Frontiers

I’ve always looked for ways to escape the gnostic dread of the so-called “real world.” I’ve tried everything from Zen and Transcendental Meditation to sweaty, ecstasy-soaked raves and squat parties

@CommonMugwort Fascinating article! I am curious to see how this develops in brain research. #Animism is not tied to #mushrooms, but it is fascinating to see that ancient cultures had their own rituals to focus on different experiences.
I remember well Christian Rätsch, a German ethnologue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_R%C3%A4tsch In his encyclopedia he wrote also about European #psychoactive plants and fungi.

BTW, here you can find the author Colin Domnauer https://dentingerlab.org/people/

The film's #themeSong, "Colors of the Wind", was originally recorded by American singer and actress #JudyKuhn in her role as the singing voice of Pocahontas. A #pop #ballad, the song's lyrics are about #animism and respecting nature, finding its roots in indigenous Native American culture.
