My brain...

...Is complicated.

So I have finally pieced the whole thing together and I am essentially the person they point to for #neuroscience curiosity.

I have:

#epilepsy (probably, temporal seizures, working diagnosis).
#tourettes #adhd #autism #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #cptsd and #synesthesia.

Oh and brain damage.

If someone wants to pay me to run a bunch of tests...

Dead Neurons
The brain region associated with moral inconsistency

Why don't some people practice what they preach? Researchers reveal that a brain region called the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC) is involved. The researchers used fMRI imaging to identify brain activity patterns associated with moral behavior and judgment. People who behaved dishonestly despite judging the same behavior as immoral in others had less activity in the vmPFC, and when the researchers stimulated participants' vmPFCs, they became more morally inconsistent. The work is published in the journal Cell Reports.

When the switch is flipped – A new #physics of #consciousness

In his #guest post on #philosophies, Dr. #WolfgangStegemann proposes a radical reformulation.

Wolfgang describes #consciousness not as a mysterious addition to #matter, but as a #state of a #system that occurs when certain #structural conditions are met.

New research shows that “body wandering,” when our thoughts drift to sensations like heartbeat or breath, may help mental health. While it can trigger brief negative emotions, it’s linked to fewer symptoms of depression and ADHD over time. Tuning into the body might protect against harmful rumination. #Neuroscience #MentalHealth #MindWandering https://www.sciencenews.org/article/mind-wander-body-mental-health
When our minds wander to the body, it may affect mental health

People’s minds sometimes wander to their bodily sensations, which may reduce symptoms of depression and ADHD, a new study suggests.

The brief highlights a shift in understanding of fear and memory, illustrating that non-neuronal cells—astrocytes—play active, real-time roles in forming, recalling, and modulating fear responses. This challenges traditional neuron-centric models and underscores the importance of considering glial contributions when interpreting fear-related processes, which may inform a broader, systems-oriented perspective for mental health practice.

Astrocytes, once thought to be mere brain “support cells,” are now revealed to be key players in fear memory. Researchers found they actively help form, recall, and weaken fear responses by interacting with neurons in real time. Changing astrocyte activity directly altered how strong fear memories became. This breakthrough could lead to entirely new treatments for anxiety-related disorders.

I just found something interesting. My wife just played a song of someone that sang with a very "pressed" voice. It was extremely unpleasant, because I imagined how difficult it would be for myself to do this. I have no problems with growls and guttural screams as in metal, though.

Does anyone else feel a similar sensation when listening to people like Louis Armstrong or Harvey Fierstein?

(This effect is apparently related to somatic empathie and mirror neurons, and may be stronger in neurodivergent people, but I am by no means an expert.)
