Chipped the Choppings.
No waste here—every bit of material finds a purpose. The sapwood I chopped off has already filled several wheelbarrows with clean, valuable wood chippings. They're perfect for mulch, pathways, or even future composting. My 3kW to 400V chipper did a good job again today, slicing through even the knottier offcuts without missing a beat. There’s something deeply satisfying about turning the byproducts of careful #woodworking into something genuinely useful. From stripping the sapwood to feeding the chipper, the whole process feels efficient, deliberate, and complete—nothing wasted, everything put to use.

I'm also considering doing wood carving again.

Once upon a time, I carved animal spirit wands like these. It's been over half a decade since I did these.

The stallion was from spruce wood. The eyes are amethysts.

The dolphin was from aspen, the eyes are inlaid antler.

The mink, laurelwood.

Last week, we took down a single #larch log from a windthrow like in good old times. I’m really pleased with the yield of fence posts from that tree. We cut the first three lengths into quarters using our bandsaw (woodland mill), halved another three with the chainsaw, left two lengths round, and cut the rest of the top into firewood.
The posts are between 2.2 and 2.4 meters long—solid and just the right size. Over the past week, I’ve been chopping away the sapwood with an axe. Definitely saved myself a trip to the gym with that one!

Lovely run up to Loch Earn and on to Killin.
The mirror man is back on the shores of the loch, he was removed for a few years - not sure why..
Sadly it was a grey day else he would have shone and looked even more alien like.
