A great hidden gem of the #soul / #funk genre, with a BATSHIT crazy story behind it.

In the early 70’s, Ike White was convicted of murdering a man during a robbery (White maintained his innocence).

He was sentenced to life in prison in California.

Music producer Jerry Goldstein heard about an inmate at Soledad who wrote&performed original music, & who was quite talented.
He visited the prison, heard him, & signed him instantly.
Goldstein coordinated with prison authorities to bring in mobile recording equipment & professional session musicians, & the entirety of Changin’ Times was recorded IN PRISON!

The album is a breathtaking blend of soul, funk, #jazz , & #psychedelic rock. It’s INCREDIBLY POLISHED, & nothing about it sounds like it was recorded in jail.

White was released from prison in 1978.
An amazing record.
