Miami kosher, Mutra, restaurant earns Michelin star

As golden confetti rained down around him Thursday, Israeli chef Raz Shabtai broke down in tears and was embraced by his cheering staff. Moments earlier, a livestreamed Michelin ceremony had announced that his Miami restaurant…

"With income upwards of $150,000 a year before taxes, a family in the #UnitedStates should be able to live a comfortable #middleclass life. But for Rachel and her husband, a #religious #Jewish couple in #NewJersey with three children, it’s barely enough to scrape by — even after her parents step in to help.

“I’m a CPA, and I go through my expenses every single year,” Rachel (not her real name) told The Times of Israel. “I can’t make it work.”

It’s not because they live a lavish lifestyle or have an oversized house, Rachel said. It is simply the cost of living in a #ModernOrthodox Jewish community: school tuition, #kosher food, holidays, and community fees that seem to gobble up more and more of the family’s income every year."

@lowqualityfacts If you drink it together with cows meat, than it's not #kosher , because it would be disrespectful to the animal, to take their mothers milk and consume it together with the child, the mother, or the father. - That's what I heard. Is it true?

"#Returning, #NicholasLemann’s eloquent, achingly honest account of life within a tightly knit #German-#Jewish subculture whose collective response to #antisemitism was to fixate on fitting in with #gentiles. So axiomatic was the #NewOrleans community’s #assimilationism, and so profound its disdain for Eastern #European #Jews, that #Lemann never tasted lox until after he left home for college. And yet, well into adulthood, Lemann reevaluated, and rejected, the tradeoffs of his family forebears, in favor of a #kosher home, membership in a #minyan and #Shabbat observance.

Hence the #book’s title. Hence, too, its element of surprise: This deeply personal story is not what you might expect from Lemann, a practitioner of cool-headed “neoliberal” policy #journalism in its 1980s heyday, who went on to become a #NewYorker staff #writer, dean of the #Columbia #Journalism School and #author of four books on U.S. political and social #history."

The latest trend with "conservative christians" in the former USA is "Biblical Eating". https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/may/20/latest-fad-diet-eating-biblically

Are these people allowed to eat pork, shellfish etc as they are mentioned in Leviticus.
Or
Are they not allowed to eat pork etc as it is explicitly forbidden in Leviticus?

The article does not make it clear. Possibly because the writer was sniggering at these fuckwits when she wrote it.

And, lo! The latest fad diet is upon us – and it’s called ‘eating biblically’

Some Christian conservatives are only eating foods mentioned in the Bible. At least Jesus wasn’t devouring ultra-processed sausage rolls, writes Arwa Mahdawi

I wonder if peoples blood sugar does different things during a meal. Some people find it important to eat a meal with other people. I find it most enjoyable to eat the meal without talking or socializing. It’s almost like I’m trying to do two things like watch a TV show and socialize. I would much rather socialize while I’m driving or while I’m walking or sitting at a campfire. Or looking at the clouds. I really can’t socialize well at a meal. I know people feel strongly about this because they will go out of their way and not let another person eat alone and they will act offended if you suggest that you will leave the room and they will eat alone.

The #book, published in 1846, is titled The #Jewish Manual of Modern #Cookery, With a Collection of Valuable #Recipes & Hints Relating to the Toilette. It was written in English and published anonymously under the credit “A Lady.”

Although there is no conclusive proof, researchers attribute the book to Lady #JudithMontefiore for several reasons..."
